Somehow, even with legislation, the right discoveries didn\u2019t discover themselves on cue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VW has decided to use one third of its EV development money to develop a better fuel car instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hey, it\u2019s only 60,000 million Euro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/722457\/vw-invest-billions-gas-engines\/\">VW Will Spend Billions of Its EV Development Budget on Gas Engines<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By: Adrian Padeanu,&nbsp;<em>Motor1.com<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/657400\/vw-group-200-billion-usd-investment-in-evs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u20ac180 billion<\/a>&nbsp;($196 billion) set aside in 2023 primarily for next-generation EVs, the German brand will now use one-third to continue the development of combustion engines.&nbsp;The announcement comes from Arno Antlitz, the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at the Volkswagen Group. The company intends to spend roughly \u20ac60 billion ($65 billion) to \u201ckeep our combustion cars competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a stark departure from the previous plan announced in late 2022 to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/618793\/vw-europe-ev-only-2033\/\">build and sell only electric cars in Europe from 2033<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only a year ago Volkswagon was confident it<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/06\/23\/volkswagen-confident-affordable-ev-under-27k\/\">&nbsp;could build a cheaper EV<\/a>. But a month ago they reported a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/06\/23\/volkswagen-confident-affordable-ev-under-27k\/\">20 percent fall in first quarter profits<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Meanwhile Australia joins the EU with footage of \u201cEV Graveyards\u201d collecting at Port Melbourne<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australia remains&nbsp; far behind the rest of the developed world in EV sales but is obviously catching up on the latest trends quickly. It\u2019s why the Nevera is still for sale, despite the hype around it and the limited production run of only 150 cars. The electric hypercar developed in Croatia set no fewer than&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/667676\/rimac-nevera-sets-23-records\/\">23 records<\/a>&nbsp;last year, but it looks as though wealthy people weren\u2019t impressed enough to sign their names on the dotted line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is talk now of all kinds of variations of sustainable fuel to run combustion engines on.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/720830\/bugatti-fuel-station-at-home\/\">The CEO of Bugatti has even floated the idea<\/a>&nbsp;of selling their bespoke customers their very own fuel station as well, so they can generate and fill their sustainable cars at home. Possibly the brag-able-value of owning a sustainable biofuel car that \u201ccharges at home\u201d using some wildly expensive combination of solar panels and batteries won\u2019t seem so brag-worthy in a few years time.
