to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/what-is-labours-28bn-green-prosperity-plan-13066640\">Sky News<\/a>, it comes with a cost of \u00a323.7bn over five years, equivalent to \u00a3870 for every household in the country. As for green hydrogen, carbon capture and gigafactories, the money will in all likelihood be wasted, and certainly won\u2019t benefit the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transitioning the steel industry will involve wasting billions so that efficient processes are replaced by hydrogen fuelled ones. But the plan appears to be to hand billions to local councils to spend on council houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But why should taxpayers fund this? Let the councils themselves pay for it, and recover the expense by putting up rents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In any event, the amount is tiny, and will make very little difference to the UK\u2019s energy consumption. For example, \u00a38 billion would pay for just 800,000 houses at \u00a310000 a time, the sort of amount of money that might make a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And even that would not save \u00a3500 a year, given that annual heating bills for the sort of small houses involved are probably little more than \u00a31000. Labour\u2019s promise also implies that everybody will benefit from this saving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the most ridiculous claim of all is that \u201chundreds of thousands of jobs\u201d would be created. At \u00a350000 a job, you\u2019d be looking at a cost of tens of billions a year. And you can double that amount when the cost of materials, travel etc are added on. That\u2019s \u00a3500 per household, on top of the cost of the Green Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The insane obsession with floating wind power alone would cost \u00a34 billion a year in subsidies, given its strike price of \u00a3244\/MWh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Labour clearly have no plan for when the wind does not blow and the sun does not shine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you, Ed Miliband!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Upgrading of ports is, of course, yet another cost associated with offshore wind.
