Not so much on the night of the 27th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Another wind drought pulls combined renewables output below last year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The story of Australia\u2019s green energy transition is mostly one of new peaks in output and share of renewables, but there inevitably ups and downs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last few days have seen another so-called wind energy \u201cdrought\u201d \u2013 the second in as many months. Autumn is \u201ctraditionally\u201d the season with lowest wind outputs, but the lull this year has pushed the combined output of renewables below its level of last year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The graph above from ITK Services principal David Leitch, a contributor to Renew Economy and co-host of Renew Economy\u2019s popular and weekly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/reneweconomy.com.au\/energy-insiders-podcast-chris-bowen-explains-the-green-energy-plan\/\">Energy Insiders&nbsp;<\/a>podcast, shows that the share of variable renewable energy (VRE, or solar and wind), has fallen below last year\u2019s levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another data provider, OpenNEM, puts the share of wind over the last three days at just 4.1 per cent, and five per cent for the past seven days, compared to more than 13 per cent for the past year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026Read more:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/reneweconomy.com.au\/another-wind-drought-pulls-combined-renewables-output-below-last-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/reneweconomy.com.au\/another-wind-drought-pulls-combined-renewables-output-below-last-year\/<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s see, if wind power drops to below 5% normal for 3 days and counting, does this mean we\u2019d need at least 72 hours of battery backup, and counting?
