But Nick Cater just compared electricity in New South Wales to Finland to prove their 129 pages of modeled costs were wrong:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"story-headline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/commentary\/finlands-clean-green-nuclear-power-a-lesson-for-labor\/news-story\/540c6b730d7b9aa5c143eee7aa07cf3f\">Finland\u2019s clean, Green nuclear power a lesson for Labor<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"U73146849262h7D\">On Saturday\u2026.&nbsp; Electricity generation in NSW was releasing 750g of carbon into the atmosphere per megawatt hour of electricity. In Finland, it was 35g.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"U73146849262jVC\">If the CSIRO\u2019s GenCost report is to be believed, Finnish electricity prices should have gone through the roof a year ago when its newest reactor was turned on. They did not. The retail price of electricity in Finland, which is indexed to the spot market, came down almost immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Were Energy Minister Chris Bowen to spend a few days in Finland, he might realise almost everything he says about nuclear is complete and utter nonsense. This might be why he spent his time in Europe last year trying to sell green hydrogen to the Germans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All over Europe the countries with the most solar and wind power have the highest prices<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modeling electricity costs is ripe for the plucking, so the only costs that count are the real ones that customers pay. According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=File:Ele_map_2023_S2_V1.png\">Eurostat data on electricity prices&nbsp; in the&nbsp;<\/a>EU last year, some countries were paying twice as much as others. And the cheapest electricity was in countries using coal power or lands with lots of hydroelectricity and plenty of water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img Did they do that for technologies that are barely invented like hydrogen and batteries too? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They claim it would take 15 years to build one plant, yet the French built<a href=\"https:\/\/joannenova.com.au\/2023\/08\/australia-cant-build-one-nuclear-plant-but-fifty-years-ago-france-built-56-in-15-years\/\">\u00a056 plants in 15 years<\/a>, and that was 40 years ago.
