coal, oil and natural gas.<\/strong>&nbsp;With&nbsp;<strong>40% of the nation\u2019s coal resources<\/strong>, the state has been the United States\u2019 top producer since 1986, primarily from the Powder River Basin located in the northeastern part of the state. It is also a national leader in the&nbsp;<strong>production of oil and natural gas<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>ranking in the top 10<\/strong>&nbsp;in production of both products.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Yet, even though the Wyoming economy is heavily dependent on the mining and extraction of fossil fuels, its&nbsp;<strong>governor, Mark Gordon, has adopted a strong \u201cdecarbonization\u201d policy.<\/strong>&nbsp;The science tells us that this is&nbsp;<strong>not a winning strategy for the people of Wyoming.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The CO2 Coalition believes that<strong>\u00a0public policy<\/strong>\u00a0on such matters\u00a0<strong>should be driven by scientific review and analysis, not political agendas<\/strong>. This team presented the science at a hearing of the Wyoming Senate Agriculture Committee (pictured above.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The team also presented accurate science regarding Wyoming\u2019s climate to students at Gillette College, Laramie County Community College, and at the University of Wyoming.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#e81515\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Temperature Data Shows Good News for Wyoming<\/mark><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Data<\/strong>&nbsp;for Wyoming&nbsp;<strong>contradict<\/strong>&nbsp;the 4th National Climate Assessment&nbsp;<strong>(NCA4) assertion<\/strong>&nbsp;that \u201cthe frequency and intensity of extreme high temperature events are virtually certain to increase.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Our data analysis shows that&nbsp;<strong>high daily temperatures peaked during the Dust Bowl years<\/strong>&nbsp;of the 1930s and have been in&nbsp;<strong>a 90-year decline.<\/strong>&nbsp;This is confirmed by reviewing the&nbsp;<strong>percentage of days<\/strong>&nbsp;that were reported to be&nbsp;<strong>hotter than 100\u00b0F (37.8\u00b0C)<\/strong>&nbsp;by Wyoming temperature stations. There is no discernible increase, and the<strong>&nbsp;largest numbers<\/strong>&nbsp;occurred in the<strong>&nbsp;first half of the 20th century<\/strong>&nbsp;when CO2 levels were 70% of recent measurements.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>There has been, however, a\u00a0<strong>beneficial increase in the minimum nighttime temperatures<\/strong>, which has led to a\u00a0<strong>lengthening of the Wyoming growing season<\/strong>. Within this report,&nbsp;<\/em><em>we have documented that&nbsp;<strong>modest warming and increasing carbon dioxide are clearly beneficial<\/strong>&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<\/em><em>Cowboy State\u2019s ecosystems and citizenry.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>The data tell us the following:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u2022 Current levels of carbon dioxide are at near historically low concentrations.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Adjustments to historic temperature records have artificially amplified modern warming.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Wyoming temperatures have increased a modest 1.2\u00b0F (0.7\u00b0C) since 1895.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Heat waves peaked in the 1930s and have been in slight decline since that period.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Nightime low temperatures have increased, lengthening growing seasons.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Precipitation data, while varying greatly from year-to-year, show no increasing or decreasing&nbsp;<\/em><em>trend.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Droughts are not increasing in Wyoming.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Severe weather and natural disasters are declining.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Agricultural production, globally and in Wyoming, is thriving due to modest warming and more&nbsp;<\/em><em>CO2.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Vegetation in Wyoming and around the world is increasing.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Greenhouse-induced warming that would be averted (&lt; 0.003\u00b0F) by eliminating Wyoming\u2019s CO2&nbsp;<\/em><em>emissions would be too small to measure and achieved, if at all, at enormous cost.<\/em><br><em>\u2022 Models used to project future temperatures significantly overpredict the amount of warming in&nbsp;<\/em><em>coming decades.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#e81531\" class=\"has-inline-color\">CO2 Should Be Celebrated, Not Captured<\/mark><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wyoming has vast resources of coal, oil and natural gas.\u00a0With\u00a040% of the nation\u2019s coal resources, the state has been the United States\u2019 top producer since 1986, primarily from the Powder River Basin located in the northeastern part of the state.
