hydrogen is predicted to be a leading renewable energy source in the future, but production in Europe must ramp up massively to hit targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the EU has pinned&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/green\/2024\/02\/29\/electric-heat-pumps-vs-green-hydrogen-inside-the-italian-school-with-a-pioneering-boiler\"><strong>green hydrogen<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;as one of the fuels of the future and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/energy.ec.europa.eu\/topics\/energy-systems-integration\/hydrogen_en#:~:text=The%20priority%20for%20the%20EU,10%20million%20tonnes%20by%202030.\"><strong>aims<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to generate 10 million tonnes while importing a further 10 million tonnes by the end of the decade,&nbsp;<strong>renewable hydrogen production in Europe was just 20,000 tonnes in 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, 96 per cent of hydrogen used across Europe in 2022 was made from natural gas, resulting in significant carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe need a clear regulation and a clear permitting process, and we need access to the [energy] grid,\u201d explained Carlos F\u00fanez Guerra, the Green Hydrogen Development Manager at Iberdrola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Can Europe still reach its goal?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe big question behind all of this is money and funds,\u201d reminded&nbsp;Malvault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The European Commission<\/strong>&nbsp;has implemented a clean hydrogen regulatory framework and is investing heavily, so far, it&nbsp;<strong>has provided&nbsp;\u20ac22 billion and counting.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Malvault warned Euronews that&nbsp;<strong>more funding will still be needed to reach the EU\u2019s targets.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026Read more:&nbsp;<a
