class="wp-block-paragraph">On 6 February, thousands of Australian advocates for reliable and affordable power will march on the Nation’s capital, Canberra (the rally starts at 10am). The MSM will run the usual gaslighting lines about NIMBYs ignoring “the science”, accusing hard-working Australians of being “Luddites”, victims of right-wing misinformation who should really get with the program and embrace the grand renewable energy ‘transition’ – ie paying through the nose for thoroughly unreliable, heavily subsidised and chaotically intermittent wind and solar.

The problem for the wind and sun cult – and the MSM hacks that run cover for them – is that it only takes a matter of minutes to understand that industrial-scale wind and solar are completely pointless. Spend an hour or two on this site and you’ll never look back.

Now in our twelfth year, STT has met plenty who started out with bubbly enthusiasm for wind and large-scale solar but who turned against the scam as soon as they got a grip on the facts. Like all converts, their enthusiasm was replaced with hostility, with many becoming staunch advocates for reliable and affordable power, especially nuclear power.

Over that time span, we’ve never met a single soul who started out with a set against industrial wind and solar who subsequently turned supporter.

Those who march on Canberra will be better informed and better equipped than ever before. And ready to start smashing the kind of myths run by the wind industry and its propaganda wing in politics and the press.

All reliable energy advocates need to do is focus on the fact that the latest grand wind factory being threatened for their patch of paradise will never provide power around-the-clock, attacking the lie that such and such wind project will power X million homes.

The rhetorical retort is to ask precisely when will those homes receive power from that project, or any other wind factory for that matter?

Across the Eastern Grid the wind turbines connected to it (with a total notional capacity of 11,409 MW) rarely produce a combined total output greater than 60% of that notional capacity; and, on dozens of occasions each year, struggle to produce 5% of that notional capacity. See for example the facts and data laid out here: It’s The Weather, Stupid: When The Wind Won’t Blow, The Power Don’t Flow

The average annual power output of all the wind turbines connected to the Eastern Grid sits at 28%. That is, those turbines are working less than 2 days a week. With 168 hours in a week (24 x 7), 28% of a week is 47 hours (168 x 0.28), 60 minutes less than 2 full days. Now if that sounds utterly pathetic, the worst part is that the wind power outfits concerned can never tell you, with any meaningful advance notice, which two days of the week they might be generating a little power; the power that’s said to be powering X million homes.

Then there’s the colossal subsidies gifted (at the power consumer’s expense) to the rent-seeking outfits that can’t deliver power as and when you need it: Highway Robbery: How Wind & Solar Subsidies Drive Power Prices Out of This World

The utterly staggering cost of attempting to generate occasional power miles offshore: Forever Cancelled: Escalating Costs Crippling Giant Offshore Wind Power Projects

The destruction of pristine forest habitat: No More: Time to Stop the Wind Industry Wrecking Our Pristine Forests

The destruction of marine ecosystems and fishing grounds: Fishermen Unite to Prevent Offshore Wind Industry Wrecking Marine Ecosystems

The wholesale slaughter of whales, dolphins and more during offshore turbine construction: US Govt Lying About Offshore Wind Industry’s Whale Slaughter

And birds and bats: Carcass Count Mounts: Wind Industry Callously Slaughtering Millions of Birds & Bats

And koalas: Licenced Exterminators: Government Greenlights Wind Industry’s Mass Koala Kill

STT expects the speakers and marchers to hit back at the carbon dioxide-obsessed climate cult with the obvious and only retort. If the object is reducing carbon dioxide gas emissions in the electricity generation sector, there really is only one answer: Resistance Is Futile: Net-Zero CO2 Targets Can Only Be Met With Nuclear Power

In the lead-up to the march on Canberra, here’s a piece from Matthew Condon outlining the Genesis of our growing community hostility to the greatest economic and environmental fraud, of all time. Oh, and we’ve removed all of the faux science, wind cult propaganda and gaslighting from the usual suspects.

Ill-wind fans the flames of regions’ renewable energy war
The Australian
Matthew Condon
10 January 2024

They will come from the north and south. By car and bus and train. And if they have to, given their passion, by Shanks’ pony.

Hundreds if not thousands of the wind farm and renewable energy-aggrieved are set to pour on to the manicured lawns of Parliament House, Canberra on Tuesday, February 6 – federal parliament’s first sitting day for 2024 – drawn from the Hunter and the Illawarra, the two NSW regions earmarked for the government’s multibillion-dollar offshore wind farms beyond 2030.

The “Reckless Renewables Rally” is also expected to attract similarly disaffected sympathisers from Queensland, Victoria (itself embroiled in the great wind farm debate) and Tasmania.

They will gather to tell their government what they think of green, clean energy created by monster wind turbines former prime minister Tony Abbott once called the “dark Satanic mills of the modern era”. And they will come not uninvited.

Late last year former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce welcomed protesters to the big dance in Canberra, suggesting they rally in front of Parliament House as the nation’s federal politicians returned to work.

His logic was particularly Joycean in its appeal to common sense. “Instead of them all jumping up and down in different places,” he reportedly said, “they will all jump up and down together on the first day back in Canberra, and these are angry people.”

The unrest has been building.

On November 30 reliable energy advocates rallied in Sydney’s famous civic heart, Martin Place. Their pre-printed flyers included pictures of a threatened koala with a wind turbine looming behind it, dead whales floating beneath offshore turbines, bulldozers razing trees and pumped human fists.

In just a few short months, following the government’s announcement that the Hunter and Illawarra regions were candidates for offshore wind farms, the fight had gone beyond the regions, hit the big cities, and is now headed for the national capital.

It has ballooned from a fevered local social media campaign in which pro-wind politicians and academics and scientists had been threatened and is now teetering on the edge of a national movement. This has become personal. And fiercely political.

If the history of this fracas is ever written, it would begin at Flagstaff Hill Park on Wollongong Harbour – site of an old fort and its six-inch breach-loaded gun to defend against foreign attack in the late 1800s and early 1900s – on Sunday, October 29.

On that day, more than 2000 protesters urged to “keep the sea free”. Several speakers took to the microphone to decry the wind factory – 1461 sqkm between 10 and 30km off their shoreline from Wombarra to Kiama.

Those speakers included Kiama MP Gareth Ward, One Nation MP Tania Mihailuk, Illawarra-based Shooters Fishers and Farmers MP Mark Banasiak, and Grant Drinkwater of the organising group Coalition Against Offshore Wind.

The rally went for almost an hour and a half, the podium and guests’ marquee on the lip of the hill. In the background, container ships plied the seaway.

It would prove to be a trainer-wheel rally for the Martin Place protest. And now Canberra.

The biggest issues on Flagstaff Hill that day were threats to the whales, birdlife, lobsters potentially exposed to electromagnetic fields from underwater cables, and the whole “fragile ecosystem” of the Illawarra in general.

At some point this had come across the radar of federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, who suddenly expressed hitherto previously unknown concerns for the whales, dolphins and birds, imperilled by a federal government that had given “no environmental consideration” to the potential impact of the turbines.

Even the largely landlocked Joyce told a rally at Nelson Bay they needed to fight the renewable energies “cult” all the way to Canberra. “Cults don’t listen to logic,” he reportedly said, “they just do whatever they like.”

Dr David Gillespie, federal National Party member for Lyne (an electorate on the mid-North Coast that borders Port Stephens), has been volubly opposed to the wind farms.

“First of all, it’s plainly unnecessary when you’ve got terra firma to put a new power station, either gas, highly efficient low-emission coal or nuclear rather than engineering in extremis, basically,” he said. “Because it theoretically can be done, it’s not a good use of limited mineral resources and energy to put it into something that will have a very short life span, will be an impediment to the marine platform it’s based on, and will be a hazard for international shipping coming in and out of the Port of Newcastle, particularly in storm and tempest.

“A third of the (proposed wind farm) area will impinge upon known fishing grounds. It’ll impede the bluewater tourism economy, either the whale watching boats or the marlin fishing and all that other recreational fishing. It all happens in that area. The site is adjacent to a federal marine reserve. And there’s also a state marine reserve. And it’s the flight path for migratory birds.”

Dr Gillespie said the sheer scale of the turbines was a potential problem.

“Have you seen what is proposed?” he told The Australian. “The floating wind turbines of which there’s probably less than double figures around the world. But they’re absolutely massive – 260m high to the tip of the wind turbine. Four huge concrete anchors that have to be placed on the seabed. That will then have a kilometre-long sea chain attached to these huge concrete blocks.
