The air is getting awfully thin for Germany\u2019s Socialist\/Green government. Never in postwar history has a ruling government been so unpopular, and there\u2019s a reason for that. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reasons tens of thousands of farmers and truckers have blocked major traffic arteries everywhere and paralyzed the country is because of the governments insatiable appetite for tax revenue, which it needs to pay for the massive green new deal to decarbonize Germany by 2040.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, governments in Europe are attempting to liquidate agriculture and hand over all the farmland to huge, faceless corporations. Farmers are rising up and are not going to take it anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is angering the farmers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Higher fuel tax.<\/strong>\u00a0The government announced it would raise the fuel tax on agricultural diesel. Farmers pay 20 cents a liter less than regular motorists. The government now says farmers have to pay the same price as everyone else.\u00a0 The problem, though, is that the fuel tax was initially imposed in order to pay for road maintenance and repair. And because tractors burn most of the fuel working the fields and not on streets, the government gave the farmers a break. The government now wants to end this \u201csubsidy\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Vehicle registration tax<\/strong>. The government also wants to impose a vehicle registration tax on tractors and forestry vehicles. Up to now, these vehicles have been exempt, because again their use was mostly off road. Here the government wants to charge a vehicle tax on tractors and foresty vehicles as well, and thus put an end to this \u201csubsidy\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Expanded highway tolls:<\/strong>\u00a0Truckers are protesting the government\u2019s plan to impose a highway toll on all vehicles that are 3.5 tons or heavier, beginning July 1, 2024.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Inflation<\/strong>: Higher energy prices, in large part due to renewable energies, have fueled inflation and made it more difficult for farmers and truckers to earn a living.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. New fertilizer regulation<\/strong>, which limits and restricts farmers in their use of fertilizers and aimed to ensure \u201csustainable fertilizer practice, reliability for farmers, and clean waterways.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Other facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    1. 260,000 farms<\/strong>\u00a0are operating in Germany. Many face financial hardship from the energy policies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. The conservative right-wing AfD and center-right\u00a0<\/strong>CDU and CSU<\/strong>\u00a0parties support the farmers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. The farmers and truckers are getting\u00a0vast support from the population<\/strong>. Many are attending the protests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Environmental groups, like Greenpeace<\/strong>, on the other hand, say the government\u2019s controversial measures don\u2019t go far enough and that agriculture is emitting too much greenhouse gases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. The farmers will protest\u00a0at least a week<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    6. Despite the disruptions, the farmers and truckers enjoy\u00a0support from a vast majority<\/strong>\u00a0of the citizens. They know that they will end up footing the bill through higher prices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    7. Farmers from\u00a0neighboring countries<\/strong>\u00a0like Poland, Austria, Hungary, France, Holland and Switzerland are joining the German protests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    8. The\u00a0media and government first tried to ignore the protests<\/strong>, but now are attacking the farmers, some are even claiming Russia or Nazis are behind them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    9. In the meantime news of German farmer\u2019s\u00a0protests are captivating the headlines<\/strong>. The genie is out of the bottle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    10. Germany faces even more chaos, as the train conductors of the country\u2019s massive\u00a0German railway are threatening to go on strike<\/strong>\u00a0next week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    11. Only 17%<\/strong>\u00a0of Germans say they are\u00a0very satisfied or somewhat satisfied<\/a>\u00a0with the government. So there\u2019s a real chance that the protests could even intensify and spread.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      What can be expected to happen?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      1. Don\u2019t expect the government and complicit media to give in to the farmer\u2019s demands. They are ideologically driven and are convinced they know what\u2019s best for everyone. They don\u2019t care what the vast majority want. Dissenters get dismissed as rightwing nutjobs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. The CDU\/CSU center right party, under the leadership of Angela Merkel, started the whole mess and they are no opposition (German RINOS).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Only the right-wing\u00a0AfD party has taken on the role of opposition.<\/strong>\u00a0Currently they are polling at about 21-22% nationwide. over 30% in the East. There are calls to ban the party, because some claim they are \u201ca danger to democracy.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Tumultuous times in Germany and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
