Accordingly, it does not provide a useful benchmark for policy studies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u2013<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Ritchie and Dowlatabadi<\/em>&nbsp;(2017)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Introduction<\/a><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Oct. 16, 2023, the Office of the Superintendent for Financial Institutions released is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osfi-bsif.gc.ca\/Eng\/fi-if\/in-ai\/Pages\/scse-easc.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Standardized Climate Scenario Exercise (SCSE) methodology<\/a>&nbsp;for consultation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThe SCSE aims to increase federally regulated financial institutions\u2019 (FRFIs) understanding of their potential exposures to climate-related risks. It also aims to build their capacity to conduct climate scenario analysis and risk assessments. The SCSE will consider characteristics associated with individual exposures that are not typically used in risk quantification today but may provide strong risk discrimination under future climate scenarios. &nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stated objective of NetZero targets is to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius (over pre-industrial temperatures) as per the Paris Agreement.&nbsp; Few people realize that the 1.5\u00b0C target is a&nbsp;<em>political<\/em>, not a scientific goal.<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.friendsofscience.org\/2023\/12\/22\/collapse-catastrophe-responding-to-osfi-on-scse-climate-scenarios-exercise\/#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the creators of the RCP scenarios, these scenarios are\u00a0<strong>not meant to be used as policy prescriptive instruments,<\/strong>\u00a0but this is what the OSFI is doing, as is the Bank of Canada, and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS),<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.friendsofscience.org\/2023\/12\/22\/collapse-catastrophe-responding-to-osfi-on-scse-climate-scenarios-exercise\/#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a>\u00a0which means that international finance is being skewed by improper use of the RCP scenarios. colleague, Justin Ritchie have detailed how the misuse of these scenarios is distorting our understanding of climate science and the view of our climate future.<a scenarios of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS)<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.friendsofscience.org\/2023\/12\/22\/collapse-catastrophe-responding-to-osfi-on-scse-climate-scenarios-exercise\/#_ftn5\">[5]<\/a>\u00a0in this presentation;<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.friendsofscience.org\/2023\/12\/22\/collapse-catastrophe-responding-to-osfi-on-scse-climate-scenarios-exercise\/#_ftn6\">[6]<\/a>\u00a0he describes them as\u00a0<em>\u2018wildly
