The Supreme Court announced Wednesday it will hear challenges against one of the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s (EPA) key regulatory proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EPA\u00a0introduced<\/a>\u00a0its \u201cgood neighbor plan\u201d in March, with the policy designed to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, especially from manufacturing facilities and power plants; if finalized in its current form, the policy would impose tighter standards on 23 \u201cupwind\u201d states whose emissions are thought to cause air pollution in \u201cdownwind\u201d states. The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for four emergency challenges against the regulation in February 2024,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to the Supreme Court\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rule could cost American firms up to $910 million each year in compliance costs, and it would have particularly acute effects on industrial companies in the Midwest,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to the EPA.
