This story has been well coordinated to hit the world\u2019s media at the end of COP28:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

People moved to El Bosque in the 1980s to fish. Setting out into the Gulf of <\/em>Mexico<\/em><\/a> in threes and fours, fishermen returned with buckets of tarpon and long, streaked snook. There was more than enough to feed them, and build a community \u2013 three schools, a small church and a basketball court on the sand.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then <\/em>climate change<\/em><\/a> set the sea against the town.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flooding driven by some of the world\u2019s fastest sea-level rise and by increasingly brutal winter storms has all but destroyed El Bosque, leaving piles of concrete and twisted metal rods where houses used to line the sand. Forced to flee the homes they built, locals are waiting for government aid and living in rentals they can scarcely afford.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nearest long running tide gauge to El Bosque is Galveston, which you may recall was wiped out by \u201cclimate change\u201d in 1900:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tide gauge there gives the lie to accelerating sea level rise, or that it is something new due to man:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Daily Mail commenters  have almost to a man worked out what the naive reporter cut & pasted. El Bosque, which was only inhabited in the 1980s, is built on a sand dune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is hardly surprising that it is quickly eroding away:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
