href=\"https:\/\/polarbearscience.com\/2023\/12\/09\/despite-hand-wringing-about-churchill-polar-bears-this-year-2023-wasnt-their-worst-summer\/\">lasted 24 weeks<\/a>, the longest I can remember but apparently only the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/manitoba\/churchill-new-waste-facility-project-1.7049919\">5th longest on record<\/a>. There were a total of 265 incidents by the end of November,&nbsp;<strong>more than 100 less than the most recent late-freeze-up year of 2016<\/strong>, which didn\u2019t end until the first week of December (after bears had spent 22 weeks onshore). However, two recent years when freeze-up didn\u2019t come until the end of November (2017 and 2020) had far fewer incidents (more than 100 less each compared to this year).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Last report of the 2023 season<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of week 24 (the last week of November, 20-26) all bears in holding were released to return to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/polarbearscience.com\/2023\/11\/30\/western-hudson-bay-polar-bears-on-their-way-offshore-to-hunt-seals-freeze-up-has-begun\/\">rapidly
