That would be good for the environment.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;Excerpts in italics with my bolds and added images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#cf2e2e\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Backing away from absurd, grandiose policies would<br>shift attention toward more practical measures<\/mark><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Is the era of&nbsp;<strong>Big Climate over?<\/strong>&nbsp;It&nbsp;<strong>may be<\/strong>&nbsp;that Prime Minister Justin&nbsp;<strong>Trudeau has implicitly declared as much.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>He would not say such a thing,<\/strong>&nbsp;as when Bill Clinton emphatically declared the \u201cera of big government over\u201d in the 1990s. Clinton was trying to show that he was a different kind of progressive, leaving behind the activist government of the 1960s. In contrast, the&nbsp;<strong>Vogue-photographed Trudeau was Big Climate\u2019s most glamorous spokesmodel.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#cf2e2e\" class=\"has-inline-color\">His absence at the UN climate jamboree in Dubai is thus striking.<\/mark><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Instead, conservative premiers<\/strong>&nbsp;Danielle Smith and Scott Moe are both on hand to&nbsp;<strong>promote oil and gas deals<\/strong>&nbsp;in the petro-state, but not the prime minister. REUTERS\/Andrej Ivanov<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#cf2e2e\" class=\"has-inline-color\">That was a sign, in retrospect, that Big Climate was in decline.<br>Inviting a Swedish teenager to indignantly lecture global leaders<br>indicated that Big Climate was entering its absurd phase.<\/mark><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Big Government, Big Tobacco, Big Pharma, Big Football (FIFA now, NFL in future)<\/strong>\u00a0are behemoths that\u00a0<strong>seem unstoppable<\/strong>, commanding all they survey. Then they enter\u00a0<strong>their absurd phase, when their excesses become increasingly implausible.<\/strong>\u00a0They don\u2019t disappear. For Big Government, perhaps it was Clinton\u2019s declaration. For Big Tobacco, it was when the assembled chief executives swore under oath that they had no idea that smoking could be addictive.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Big Climate had a good run.<\/strong>\u00a0Ecological consciousness has been growing since the late 1960s. The current Dubai \u201cCOP28\u201d conference is the 28th \u201cconference of the parties\u201d that grew out of Rio 1992.&nbsp;<strong>Big Climate grew ever bigger, so much so that 70,000 delegates landed in Dubai this year.<\/strong>&nbsp;Along the way were milestones, such as Kyoto 1997 and Paris 2015, in which Big Climate managed to get&nbsp;<strong>wide agreement on re-ordering the global economy in principle, if not practice.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This year, though, one gets the sense that&nbsp;<strong>Big Climate has become wrapped in too many contradictions,<\/strong>&nbsp;capped off with&nbsp;<strong>a farcical conference in the petro-state\u2019s air-conditioned desert.<\/strong>&nbsp;The incongruity of it all was nicely highlighted by the brouhaha that erupted when the&nbsp;<strong>Emirati<\/strong>&nbsp;conference&nbsp;<strong>chairman blithely declared<\/strong>&nbsp;that there was<strong>&nbsp;no real scientific basis to phase out fossil fuels.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Consider&nbsp;<strong>the Germans, Big Climate\u2019s biggest booster in the heart of Europe<\/strong>.
