According to a new temperature reconstruction<\/a><\/strong> published in Nature<\/em>, the Horn of Africa and \u201cglobal tropics as a whole\u201d were \u201c1.6\u00b0C warmer than today\u201d throughout the Early and Middle Holocene. This is \u201cconsistent with compilations from the global tropics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This region\u2019s mean surface temperature (MST), 23\u00b0C, is nearly the coldest in the last 10,000 years. It\u00a0was as warm or warmer than today not only 10,000 years ago, but also from about 55,000 to 30,000 years ago, when Earth was experiencing glacial conditions and CO2 concentrations were said to be below 200 ppm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
