But the federal government claims there is no legal basis for their actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Alberta invokes Sovereignty Act over federal clean electricity regulations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Premier Danielle Smith believes net-zero electricity grid by 2035 is risky and costly<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/edmonton\/author\/michelle-bellefontaine-1.3651368\">Michelle Bellefontaine<\/a>&nbsp;\u00b7&nbsp;CBC News&nbsp;\u00b7&nbsp;Posted: Nov 27, 2023 5:22 PM EST&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alberta\u2019s United Conservative government has invoked its controversial Sovereignty Act for the first time by introducing a resolution to push back against the federal government\u2019s proposed Clean Electricity Regulations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The resolution, tabled in the Alberta legislature Monday, instructs governments and provincial entities such as the Alberta Electric System Operator and the Alberta Utilities Commission to ignore the regulations when they come into force \u201cto the extent legally permissable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The resolution also raises the possibility of Alberta setting up a Crown corporation to protect the private sector companies that provide electricity in the province.
