reported on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. will reportedly support a French plan to get the countries of the world to ban private financing of coal-fired power plants during the upcoming UN conference, known as COP28,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/sustainable-finance-reporting\/france-us-propose-ban-private-finance-coal-fired-plants-cop28-sources-2023-11-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>\u00a0to Reuters. The plan is likely to drive a rift between countries like the U.S. and France and those like China and India, which are reliant on coal to feed their economies cheap and reliable electricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proposed plan would allow the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to set coal standards for private financing companies that would allow regulators, ratings agencies and non-governmental organizations to track coal financing, according to Reuters.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/06\/26\/luxury-elites-service-private-jets-united-nations-climate-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(RELATED: Luxury Concierge Service Offering Private Jet Charters To Next UN Climate Conference)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sen. Approximately 73% 0f the electricity consumed in India is generated using coal, according to Reuters, and China permitted an average of two new coal plants each week in 2022,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/energyandcleanair.org\/publication\/china-permits-two-new-coal-power-plants-per-week-in-2022\/#:~:text=Key%20findings%20of%20the%20report&amp;text=Many%20of%20these%20projects%20had,power%20plants%20per%20week%201.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>\u00a0to analysis conducted by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFrance has no coal, so their position banning it is easy. The U.S., on the other hand, has the largest coal reserves\u2014 by far\u2014 in the world,\u201d Dan Kish, a senior research fellow for the institute for Energy Research, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cCoal is the leading source of electricity in the world. All this does is make the rest of the world that is trying to get affordable electricity for their people align themselves with China and against the U.S. Uncle Sam is once again made to look like a Dunce under Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India is reportedly likely to push back against the proposal, or any other proposal to set a deadline for a fossil fuel phase-out, according to Reuters. Indian delegates may reportedly push representatives of developed countries like the U.S. and France to become carbon negative, rather than merely carbon neutral, by 2050 to keep targets within grasp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the reported plan to strangle private financing for coal plants, delegates are expected to discuss the shape and stipulations of a so-called \u201closs and damages\u201d fund, a de facto international\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/10\/29\/experts-cold-water-international-climate-reparations-fund-developing-world-united-nations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">climate reparations<\/a>\u00a0program, at COP28. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry recently suggested that the U.S. will pay \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/11\/13\/john-kerry-millions-climate-reparations-poor-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">millions<\/a>\u201d into the fund, a number that many activists and representatives of poorer countries find to be inadequate.
