John Clauser shared the Nobel in physics last year. Now he\u2019s a self-described \u2018denier\u2019 of the overwhelming scientific consensus on a warming planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It might have seemed like a fringe event, except forone speaker\u2019s credentials. John F. Clauser shared the Nobel Prize in physics<\/a> last year before declaring Tuesday that \u201cthere is no climate crisis\u201d \u2014 a claim that contradicts the overwhelming scientific consensus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[Clauser] \u201cThere was overwhelming consensus that what I was doing was pointless\u201d in the 1970s, he said in an interview after the news conference. \u201cIt took 50 years for my work to win the [Nobel] prize. That\u2019s how long it takes for opinions to change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clauser bragged that he met privately with President Biden<\/a> in the Oval Office last year, when the 2022 Nobel Prize winners were invited to the White House. He said he criticized Biden\u2019s climate and energy policies, to which he said the president replied: \u201cSounds like right-wing science.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is a skeptical streak in the physics community regarding climate science,<\/strong>\u201d Nadir Jeevanjee, a research physical scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, wrote in a recent critique<\/a> of Koonin\u2019s book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSounds like right wing science\u201d. The President of the United States invites the winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize for Physics to a meeting, but doesn\u2019t bother to listen to what he has to say. Does President Biden immediately dismiss any scientific critique of his climate policy as \u201cright wing science\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is any scientific presentation or critique which contradicts the prejudices of climate believer politicians automatically dismissed as \u201cright wing science\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is a skeptical streak in the physics community regarding climate science\u201d \u2013 yet there is also an overwhelming climate consensus? Perhaps \u201cright-wing science\u201d types are implicitly excluded from consensus tallies?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No wonder the world is in such a mess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: WaPo claims the White House could not confirm Clauser\u2019s account of his meeting with the President. But I think I trust the memory of the guy who just won the Nobel Prize for Physics over the memory of Joe Biden.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
