Two and a half years ago President Xi promised to  \u201cstrictly control coal-fired power generation projects\u201d in China. Before this solemn pledge the CCP had approved a blockbuster 54 gigawatts of coal fired power plants in just two years. Afterwards, to show how committed they were to Net Zero principles and international agreements, they *only* approved 131 GW. As President Xi promised \u2014 he\u2019s \u201cstrictly in control\u201d  (of a massive increase). He\u2019s also strictly in control of the world\u2019s manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After being deceived, the UN, Greenpeace, and Joe Biden promptly did nothing at all \u2014 it\u2019s not like the future of life on Earth is at stake. And John Kerry somehow saw only \u201cagreement\u201d and \u201chope\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When faced with this environmental catastrophe, the BBC  told the world about China\u2019s green power surge instead<\/a>, and only mentioned the coal in passing as an aside. China had spawned a world record in coal plant construction, but apparently these coal plants are not so bad because many are built on renewable parks, \u201cpartly as backup for all the new wind and solar farms\u201d. As if CO2 emissions are neutralized just by the presence of the sacred talisman of \u201crenewables\u201d. It\u2019s a religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile the International Energy Agency (IEA) \u2014 a kind of mini UN energy bureaucracy \u2014 predicts China\u2019s peak coal will happen next year<\/a>. Righto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apologists, all of them for planet destroying polluters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just for comparison: has one 1,000 MW plant in the \u201cpre -permit\u201d stage. (Collinsville). A whole gigawatt of dreamtime coal plant. It\u2019s so \u201cpre\u201d that even though it was suggested four years ago, and awarded $4m for a feasibility study,\u00a0no feasibleness has been announced<\/a>. In the same years, China built about 300 coal plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All this data on coal plants comes not from overpaid academics, Ministries of Energy, or publicly funded \u201cnews\u201d broadcasters. None of them, apparently, give a toss about actual CO2 emissions. Instead, this was done by some NGO\u2019s who are paid to be perplexed but at least they are honest in their confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These people believe propaganda put out by both the UK and by China, and are caught in the headlights, genuinely surprised\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China Pledged to \u2018Strictly Control\u2019 Coal. The Opposite Happened.<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The recent about-face on coal is odd for Beijing, which generally under-promises and over-delivers on climate commitments. Controlling new coal power projects is one of the few pledges China has made from now until 2025. Furthermore, more coal power is not necessary to keep the lights on, since China has a booming clean energy sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By many measures, China is the front-runner in the global clean technology race. Its renewable energy investments accounted for 55 percent<\/a> of the global total in 2022. Just two Chinese companies<\/a> have captured over half of the world\u2019s electric vehicle battery market, and 60 percent<\/a> of electric cars sales in 2022 occurred in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone should tell them that  \u201chalf the worlds renewables\u201d only made 7% of China\u2019s total energy needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the back up coal plants made 57%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
