A judge has slammed a Just Stop Oil protester \u2014 after she asked for her trial to be delayed so she could fly to India. Lydia Gribbin, 28, appeared in court yesterday charged with\u00a0storming a West End performance of Les Miserables<\/a>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge has refused to delay the trial of\u00a0Just Stop Oil<\/a>\u00a0protesters charged with storming a performance of West End musical, Les Miserables, at the request of one defendant who said they were flying to India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The performance at London\u2019s Sondheim Theatre was halted around 9pm on October 5 after\u00a0a group of activists invaded the stage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hannah Taylor, 23; Lydia Gribbin, 28; Hanan Ameur, 22; Noah Crane, 18; and Poppy Bliss, 19, all appeared at Westminster Magistrates\u2019 Court today where they denied one count of aggravated trespass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

District Judge Michael Snow set the trial date for February 5 next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Gribbin asked the judge if the hearing could be delayed until the end of February, as she will be away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The judge appeared less than impressed, responding: \u201cI am afraid I am not going to wait for you to get back from India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you have to miss out on things, you have to miss out on things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The estimated cost to the theatre of cancelling the performance was \u00a380,000, the court heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The judge said that they could be liable to pay the full amount if they are found guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A group of activists disrupted the long-running theatre show during a rendition of the song, One Day More, which sees a performer waving a red flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They unfurled their trademark orange Just Stop Oil flag instead \u2013 to be met by boos by furious audience members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protesters then chained themselves to the stage with bicycle locks \u2013 prompting the cast to be forced backstage while the audience was ushered outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In their latest attempt to raise awareness of the climate crisis and stop fossil fuel use, Just Stop Oil covered a dinosaur skeleton at the National History Museum<\/a> in London in orange powder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Metropolitan Police said in May that\u00a0Just Stop Oil protesters had cost the force more than \u00a33.5 million\u00a0<\/a>and almost 11,000 officers shifts in a single month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
