That is why we are now taking new measures that go off track to accelerate the expansion of the power grid and create more space,\u201d he added.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>From 2023, the country\u2019s grid operators will double their investment in the power grid from the current \u20ac4 billion to \u20ac8 billion.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The new measures seek to incentivise large electricity consumers to reduce their consumption during \u201cpeak hours\u201d between 4 pm and 8 pm to prevent blackouts, as both industrial and household consumption is exceptionally high during that time frame.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Under the new measures, large consumers will pay less for electricity if they reduce consumption during these hours, while excess consumption would conversely lead to higher prices.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-euractiv-com wp-block-embed-euractiv-com\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"gfx9iWKIbI\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/news\/dutch-take-measures-to-reduce-grid-stress\/\">Dutch take measures to reduce grid stress<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Dutch take measures to reduce grid stress&#8221; &#8212; EURACTIV.com\" src=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/news\/dutch-take-measures-to-reduce-grid-stress\/embed\/#?secret=GhJFGXOvSC#?secret=gfx9iWKIbI\" data-secret=\"gfx9iWKIbI\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Netherlands still relies largely on coal and gas for its electricity, up to about 80% at times of low wind and high demand.
