As Europe\u2019s green, smothering net of regulation gets cast over the EU, citizens will have to put up with ever increasingly loonier rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest: \u201cCompulsory insurance for ride-on mowers: new EU regulations on the way. Slow moving vehicles \u2013 travelling less than 20 km\/hr<\/a>. \u201c<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s right \u2013 no joke! If the EU gets its way, homeowners won\u2019t be allowed to cut their grass with their ride-on mower unless they can show it is covered by their insurance!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

German Insurance Association (GDV) does not see ride-on mowers as a problem, though. \u201cThese slow-moving machines are normally covered by the owners\u2019 liability insurance policies, such as private liability or business liability. The German government plans to extend compulsory insurance to vehicles traveling between six and 20 kilometers per hour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What could be behind all this? We can only speculate. Certainly it would not be any stretch of the imagination that all this is designed to harass citizens off their rider-mowers off their butts and back to using the regular push-mowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And what\u2019s next? Compulsory insurance coverage for the use of power tools? And what about ladders, or even stairs? There\u2019s no limit for EU bureaucrats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
