An <\/em>Edinburgh couple<\/em><\/a> say they are \u201cin shock\u201d after claiming Tesla gave them a \u00a317,000 bill to fix their battery that was \u2018damaged by the rain\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnny Bacigalupo and Rob Hussey told how they have been faced with the massive bill when their \u00a360,000 electric <\/em>car stopped working <\/em><\/a>when the capital was faced with extreme weather last week.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following \u201cfrustrating\u201d correspondence with the company, which boasts Elon Musk as its largest shareholder, the pair say they are still being asked to fork out \u00a317,374 despite <\/em>claiming no fault<\/em><\/a> on their part.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnny and Rob left their home near Baberton to head to a <\/em>popular city centre restaurant<\/em><\/a> last Saturday. Although they arrived with no issues, they say their car wouldn\u2019t start as they attempted to leave after enjoying their meal<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

They say they waited nearly five hours from roadside assistance from Tesla support, and still have not seen their luxury car since it was wheeled away from the side of the road that evening.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnny said: \u201cI honestly can\u2019t believe that this has happened. When I first got the call I thought we would get bill for \u00a3500 or \u00a31000. When they said over 17 grand \u2013 it\u2019s absolutely obscene. My heart missed a beat, honestly.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe went out for dinner and drove our car to Frederick Street. Obviously, it was wet with the weather last week, but I honestly can\u2019t remember any huge puddles or anything like that. It\u2019s not like I was driving my car through the Cairngorms.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter dinner the car just wouldn\u2019t move. Eventually we had to contact the Tesla Roadside Assistance \u2013 around 10pm.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter a few annoyingly difficult further calls, and one failed collection attempt, our car was collected by a firm suitable for Tesla collection and delivered to Tesla Edinburgh about 1am.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After complaints from me, we received a call at 5.30pm on the Wednesday saying the battery was damaged due to water ingress and it was unfortunately not covered by the battery\u2019s 8-year warranty and so the repair would be around \u00a317,500<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDid I wish to proceed?? I was flabbergasted and couldn\u2019t really find my words\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

John and Rob are still reeling from the huge bill.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

John says he pressed representatives of Tesla on whether he or Rob were at fault for the damage, to which he claims he was told that it was a weather issue.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continued: \u201cThey said that the battery is effectively submerged in water. How can that be our fault?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter finally getting to speak to a manager, he told me it had water in it due to the fact the weather in Scotland has been so bad. That was the issue. They said it\u2019s not necessarily my fault but it\u2019s not Tesla\u2019s to pay under warranty. He reminded me there was a yellow weather warning in some parts of Scotland.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI pushed him on this and said I\u2019ve never heard or something like this happening. He said it can happen with Range Rovers and Mercs but I\u2019m just not buying it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo date, it\u2019s been a disaster of a service and the stress and worry of this is excruciating. I said to the manager, \u2018so, my understanding is, Teslas are unfit for purpose in Scotland?.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve been driving for 30 years and this is my most premium car to date and this is what it does when Edinburgh\u2019s roads get puddles or a little wet!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edinburgh Live has seen correspondence between the couple and Tesla which confirms the \u00a317,374 bill.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
