Pennsylvania regulators are forcing truck drivers to buy trucks outside Pennsylvania. The crazy part: they didn\u2019t even make the rules; they were made by California.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have no say, we can\u2019t do anything about it,\u201d says Brian Wanner the owner of Peter Brothers Trucking, \u201cI don\u2019t want to be anything like California.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that\u2019s too bad, because Pennsylvania\u2019s Environmental Quality Board decided to automatically copy rules from California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newest rules will raise the cost of new trucks by more than $50,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulators say these rules are important to stop pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s dumb, says Wanner, \u201cIn 1980, 1 truck produced as much as 60 trucks today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, we want people to buy new trucks,\u201d I ask?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou want people to buy new trucks,\u201d responds Wanner. \u201cBut if you put these costs on us that we cannot afford, we’re going to just run the older trucks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s something the regulators don\u2019t think about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, there\u2019s a lot they don\u2019t think about. Their decision hurts truck sellers, won\u2019t stop pollution, could be unconstitutional, and will only get more expensive when California mandates “all electric.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
