make it easier to build new transmission lines across hills and open countryside.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ed Miliband, shadow energy secretary, and Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, will set out plans at this week\u2019s party conference to \u201crewire Britain\u201d and build a cleaner energy grid, potentially unlocking \u00a3200bn of private investment.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><br>It follows warnings from multiple sources, including Nick Winser, the government\u2019s own Electricity Commissioner, that the lack of grid capacity and connections are blocking deployment of renewables and the switch from gas to electric home heating.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><br>However, Labour\u2019s plan is likely to prove highly controversial because it will mean building thousands of new electricity pylons and cables across rural or wild landscapes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/netzerowatch.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click\">https:\/\/netzerowatch.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quite apart from the environmental vandalism, just let that&nbsp;<em>\u00a3200bn of private investment&nbsp;<\/em>sink in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whenever Labour talks of \u201cinvestment\u201d, keep a tight hold of your wallets! Private investors are not going to hand that money over out of the kindness of their hearts.
