Not according to NOAA:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summer across the US as a whole was only the 15th hottest on mean temperatures, and 22nd for maximums, well below the 1930s.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only one State, Louisiana, set a record temperature for the summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the US Climate Extremes Index, the percentage of the US with \u201cmuch above normal temperatures\u201d was not even unusually high, never mind most of the country, as falsely claimed by the Guardian:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sum of (a) percentage of the United States with maximum temperatures much below normal and (b) percentage of the United States with maximum temperatures much above normal.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover no new State records have been set for daily temperatures:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And even at Phoenix Airport, where we have been told the heat has been most extreme, the the temperature peaked at 119F, which is well below the 1990 record of 122F<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So all in all, the Guardian\u2019s claims are pure and simple fraud.<\/mark><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
