require fewer jobs and Tata will consult on a restructuring that could lead to 3,000 redundancies

.
The Unite union described the plans as a But there is only a limited supply of scrap, and the pig iron will have to be sourced from other steel mills, which use blast furnaces anyway. In other words there is only an illusion of emission cuts, the likelihood being that pig iron will simply be imported.

A worker in the blast furnace at Tata Steel’s Port Talbot plant CREDIT: GEOFF CADDICK/AFP via Getty Images

Thousands of workers at Britain’s biggest steel mill are facing redundancy under a taxpayer-funded net zero plan.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[1
691820586,691818154,691822655,691822656
0":"post-279011","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"hentry","7":"category-uncategorized","8":"tag-green-steel","9":"tag-net-zero","10":"tag-steel-workers","11":"tag-tata-steel","13":"fallback-thumbnail

https://i0.wp.com/climatescience.press/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/image-493.png?fit=1919%2C1282&ssl=1
The UK appears to have given up on steel.
