Joe Manchin torched President Joe Biden and his administration Thursday for their aggressive moves to curtail oil activity in Alaska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of the Interior (DOI) announced Wednesday that seven remaining leases awarded from a 2021 sale of land in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge\u2019s (ANWR) Coastal Plain would be invalidated and that the agency would withdraw over 13 million acres of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPRA) from oil and gas leasing activity in order to ensure \u201cmaximum protection,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.doi.gov\/pressreleases\/biden-harris-administration-takes-major-steps-protect-arctic-lands-and-wildlife-alaska\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>&nbsp;a DOI press release. Manchin ripped the announced moves, calling the decisions an attempt to circumvent Congress that imperil American energy security in a Thursday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchin.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/manchin-statement-on-removal-of-more-than-13m-acres-from-oil-and-gas-leasing-in-the-national-petroleum-reservealaska-and-cancellation-of-seven-leases-in-anwr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is yet another example of this administration caving to the radical left with no regard for clear direction from Congress or American energy security,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/06\/06\/climate-protesters-defiance-manchin-permitting-pipeline-debt-ceiling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manchin<\/a>\u00a0said in the press release. \u201cLet\u2019s be clear \u2014 this is another attempt to use executive action to circumvent a law to accomplish what this administration does not have the votes to achieve in Congress.\u201d\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/08\/01\/joe-biden-fossil-fuels-coal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(RELATED: Joe Biden Says There\u2019s No Place For Fossil Fuels In His Administration After Saying \u2018We Desperately Need Coal\u2019 In 2012)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Alternatively, Biden could end his war on fossil fuels <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1eGfGP0RJ5\">https:\/\/t.co\/1eGfGP0RJ5<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Daily Caller (@DailyCaller) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller\/status\/1497383432606867461?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 26, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NRPA is approximately 23 million acres in total, and it is meant to serve as a reserve oil supply in the event of emergency,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blm.gov\/programs\/energy-and-minerals\/oil-and-gas\/about\/alaska\/NPR-A#:~:text=Formerly%20known%20as%20Naval%20Petroleum,supply%20for%20the%20U.S.%20Navy.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>\u00a0to the Bureau of Land Management. There have now been 55 executive orders and actions targeting Alaska specifically since Biden took office in 2021,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.murkowski.senate.gov\/press\/release\/delegation-alaska-leaders-biden-administration-puts-american-energy-security-at-risk-harms-the-state-and-alaska-native-communities#:~:text=This%20unlawful%20cancellation%20of%20AIDEA's,since%20President%20Biden%20assumed%20office.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>\u00a0to Republican Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCanceling valid leases, removing acreage from future sales, and attempting to reduce production in Alaska while taking steps to allow Iran and Venezuela to produce more oil \u2014 with fewer environmental regulations \u2014 makes no sense and is frankly embarrassing,\u201d Manchin concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alaska produced the fourth-most oil of any state in the country in 2021 and 2022,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/state\/analysis.php?sid=AK#:~:text=The%20state%20moved%20up%20from,the%20state's%20oil%20fields%20matured.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>&nbsp;to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The administration\u2019s moves to clamp down on drilling activity in the state follow a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/reports\/oil-market-report-august-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;from the International Energy Administration that oil prices could continue to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/08\/11\/oil-prices-higher-rising-international-energy-agency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rise<\/a>&nbsp;as OPEC+ production&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/07\/03\/russia-opec-saudi-arabia-massive-new-oil-cuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cuts<\/a>&nbsp;take hold, and a separate Reuters&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/low-us-heating-oil-stockpiles-could-cause-winter-sticker-shocks-2023-09-04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;indicating that Americans could see their heating bills&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/09\/05\/heating-bills-may-spike-winter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spike<\/a>&nbsp;if the upcoming winter proves to be particularly cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The DOI justified its decision to cancel the leases by asserting that the prerequisite environmental reviews were legally inadequate, according to the agency\u2019s press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPresident Biden is delivering on the most ambitious climate and conservation agenda in history,\u201d Secretary of the Interior&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/08\/17\/watchdog-biden-administration-deb-haaland-ethics-complaint-chaco-canyon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deb Haaland<\/a>&nbsp;said in the agency\u2019s press release. \u201cThe steps we are taking today further that commitment, based on the best available science and in recognition of the Indigenous Knowledge of the original stewards of this area, to safeguard our public lands for future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neither the White House nor the DOI responded immediately to requests for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic West Virginia Sen.
