But state legislators acquiesced to pressure from ill-informed animal rights groups and prioritized emotional appeals over conservation and public safety. SB 1148 now fails to fully address this public safety risk for the Constitution State\u2019s 3.6 million residents\u2014a risk made clear last year when<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courant.com\/2022\/10\/19\/connecticut-bear-that-attacked-morris-boy-10-tests-negative-for-rabies\/\">&nbsp;a 10-year-old boy was mauled by a bear in his grandparents\u2019 backyard<\/a>.\u201d \u2014&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courant.com\/2023\/06\/23\/garrett-chace-without-a-hunting-season-ct-fails-to-responsibly-manage-black-bears\/\">Hartford Courier<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Episode 379 of District of Conservation, Gabriella discusses Connecticut passing a bear self-defense law that allows residents to shoot bears in self-defense cases and discourages feeding the burgeoning black bear population.
