Brown, a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University and doctor of earth and climate sciences, said editors at Nature and Science \u2013 two of the most prestigious scientific journals \u2013 select \u2018climate papers that support certain preapproved narratives\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an article for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/i-overhyped-climate-change-to-get-published\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Free Press<\/a>, Brown likened the approach to the way \u2018the press focus so intently on climate change as the root cause\u2019 of wildfires, including the recent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-12475907\/maui-wildfire-missing-persons-update.html\">devastating fires in&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/hawaii\/index.html\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-12475907\/maui-wildfire-missing-persons-update.html\">Hawaii<\/a>. He pointed out research that said 80 percent of wildfires are ignited by humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brown gave the example of a paper he recently authored titled \u2018Climate warming increases extreme daily wildfire growth risk in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/california\/index.html\">California<\/a>\u2018. Brown said the paper, published in Nature last week, \u2018focuses exclusively on how climate change has affected extreme wildfire behavior\u2019 and ignored other key factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brown laid out his claims in an article titled \u2018I Left Out the Full Truth to Get My Climate Change Paper Published\u2019. \u2018I just got published in Nature because I stuck to a narrative I knew the editors would like. And the editors of these journals have made it abundantly clear, both by what they publish and what they reject, that they want climate papers that support certain preapproved narratives\u2014even when those narratives come at the expense of broader knowledge for society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018To put it bluntly, climate science has become less about understanding the complexities of the world and more about serving as a kind of Cassandra, urgently warning the public about the dangers of climate change.
