While the BBC has gone into hysterics over the hot summer in southern Europe, further north the<strong>\u00a0British weather has stubbornly refused to co-operate with the Green warming narrative.<\/strong>\u00a0Temperatures for much of the summer have barely reached those of a winter\u2019s day in Canberra. On 13 July it issued a press release\u00a0<strong>claiming<\/strong>\u00a0that the \u2018air temperature\u2019 of\u00a0<strong>Sardinia and Sicily was \u2018expected\u2019 to climb to 48 degrees<\/strong>, \u2018potentially the hottest temperatures ever recorded in Europe\u2019. In Sicily in fact<strong>\u00a0it never went above 35<\/strong>\u00a0degrees. Unusually, the 13 July ESA press release, updated five days later, claimed that land temperatures in the 40s and 50s had been recorded across southern Europe in the previous days. The standard measurement of temperature is that of the air, made two metres above the ground. Land temperatures will of course always be many degrees higher, as anyone who has walked barefoot on a concrete footpath in summertime Australia will know. The<strong>\u00a0ESA\u2019s 48 degree forecast of the \u2018air\u2019 temperature in southern Italy was obviously an error<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 in reality it was the forecast land temperature.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#e81515\" class=\"has-inline-color\">The forecast was never corrected, went unnoticed by most in the media<br>and was repeated around the world.<\/mark><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"723\" height=\"407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iXuc7SAyk2s?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>When the weather map went crazy in Arizona<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Yet despite the unrelenting propaganda,\u00a0<strong>European voters continue to defy the climate lobby\u2019s plan<\/strong>\u00a0to make them colder and poorer. Voters over the past year have\u00a0<strong>given the Green-left a bloody nose at virtually every opportunity<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 in national and regional elections in<strong>\u00a0Italy, Sweden, Finland, Greece and Germany.<\/strong>\u00a0The<strong>\u00a0Netherlands might join that list<\/strong>\u00a0after elections later this year \u2013 the Farmer-Citizen Movement recently came out of nowhere against the government\u2019s Green jihad on farming and is on course to influence policy as the country\u2019s equal-largest party. Meanwhile in\u00a0<strong>Spain<\/strong>, the elections in July saw\u00a0<strong>a major swing to the right<\/strong>\u00a0against the ultra-eco Socialists, even if it wasn\u2019t enough this time to unseat them.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>By contrast<strong>\u00a0Britain\u2019s left defeated the Tories at two of last month\u2019s three by-elections<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 largely because grumpy Conservative voters failed to turn out. He\u2019s also suddenly\u00a0<strong>approving new North Sea oil and gas development projects<\/strong>, while\u00a0<strong>attacking Labour as eco-fanatics in bed with extremists like Just Stop Oil.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Over 40\u00a0<strong>Tory MPs and peers have told Sunak they want him to go further<\/strong>\u00a0and to defer Boris Johnson\u2019s ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 \u2013 a planned measure opposed by 83 per cent of Tory members, according to an opinion poll. Sunak and other members of the Tory establishment for the moment flatly reject this.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>If the opinion polls don\u2019t shift, panic\u00a0<strong>could<\/strong>\u00a0lead the\u00a0<strong>Conservatives<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>shift more dramatically on their net-zero policies.<\/strong>\u00a0The obvious options are to delay the<strong>\u00a0looming bans on non-electric cars and gas boilers.<\/strong>\u00a0An even bolder move would be to announce\u00a0<strong>a referendum on net zero<\/strong>, as championed by Nigel Farage and the Daily Telegraph.
