class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Liberals\u2019 Energy Chaos Hinders Tasmania\u2019s Economy, Labor Claims<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tasmanian businesses and the economy are being hamstrung by Jeremy Rockliff and the Liberals\u2019 failure to manage the state\u2019s energy resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Tasmanian major industrials \u2013 the backbone of our economy for 100 years \u2013 are being constrained and told they cannot access any additional power.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It means a project critical to secure their future cannot go ahead.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It\u2019s clear there is no power available. The\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.economicregulator.tas.gov.au\/Documents\/23%201713%20Tasmanian%20Market%20Watch%20week%2028%20%289%20July%20to%2015%20July%202023%29.PDF?utm_source=miragenews&amp;utm_medium=miragenews&amp;utm_campaign=news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tasmanian Economic Regulator\u2019s latest electricity market analysis<\/a><em>\u00a0shows there is no available power for new energy projects until at least the middle of next year.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>And even Premier Rockliff admitted yesterday that \u201cTasmania has a power supply challenge\u201d and \u201ccapacity is limited\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<cite>Read more:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.miragenews.com\/liberals-energy-chaos-hinders-tasmanias-economy-1062300\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.miragenews.com\/liberals-energy-chaos-hinders-tasmanias-economy-1062300\/<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Aussie state of Tasmania frequently promotes itself as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hydro.com.au\/clean-energy\/battery-of-the-nation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the battery of the nation<\/a>. But they often\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2016_Tasmanian_energy_crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">struggle to supply their own energy needs<\/a>, so I don\u2019t think anyone takes their battery claim too seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This problem is entirely self inflicted. The State of Tasmania only has a population of around half a million people, so a small nuclear reactor in conjunction with their existing hydro systems would pretty much fix all their problems, and maintain their status as a low CO2 emission state. Nearby South Australia with its massive Uranium reserves could supply all Tasmania\u2019s nuclear fuel needs indefinitely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sadly the moribund Australian political establishment is utterly fixated on renewables.
