atmosphere, but there is a much more plausible explanation, one that is virtually endorsed by two of the world\u2019s leading scientific organizations. It turns out that levels of water vapor in the atmosphere have dramatically increased over the last year-and-a-half, and water vapor is well recognized as a greenhouse gas, whose heightened presence leads to higher temperatures, a mechanism that dwarfs any effect CO2 may have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, why has atmospheric water vapor increased so dramatically? Because of a historic, gigantic volcanic eruption last year that I \u2013 probably along with you \u2014 had never heard of. The mass media ignored it because it took place 490 feet underwater in the South Pacific. The underwater eruption in the South Pacific Ocean also\u00a0<strong>blasted an enormous plume of water vapor into Earth\u2019s stratosphere<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 enough to fill more than 58,000 Olympic-size swimming pools.\u00a0<strong>The sheer amount of water vapor could be enough to temporarily affect Earth\u2019s global average temperature.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWe\u2019ve never seen anything like it,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0said Luis Mill\u00e1n, an atmospheric scientist at NASA\u2019s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California. That\u2019s nearly four times the amount of water vapor that scientists estimate the 1991&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/earthobservatory.nasa.gov\/images\/1510\/global-effects-of-mount-pinatubo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mount Pinatubo eruption<\/a>&nbsp;in the Philippines lofted into the stratosphere. [emphases added]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NASA published the above in August 2022. Half a year later, a newer study increased the estimate of the water vapor addition to the atmosphere by 30%. From the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Observing_the_Earth\/FutureEO\/Aeolus\/Looking_back_at_the_eruption_that_shook_the_world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Space Agency<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s43247-022-00652-x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent paper<\/a>\u00a0published in\u00a0Nature, a team of scientists showed\u00a0<strong>the unprecedented increase in the global stratospheric water mass by 13%<\/strong>\u00a0(relative to climatological levels) and a five-fold increase of stratospheric aerosol load \u2013 the highest in the last three decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using a combination of satellite data, including data from ESA\u2019s Aeolus satellite, and ground-based observations, the team found that due to the extreme altitude, the volcanic plume circumnavigated the Earth in just one week and dispersed nearly pole-to-pole in three months. [emphasis added]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another scientific paper explains the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanthinker.com\/blog\/2023\/07\/net%20warming%20of%20the%20climate%20system.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">net warming of the climate system<\/a>\u201d on a delayed basis. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/news\/tonga-eruption-blasted-unprecedented-amount-of-water-into-stratosphere\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NASA\u2019s Jet Propulsion Laboratory<\/a>\u00a0further explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volcanic eruptions rarely inject much water into the stratosphere. In the 18 years that NASA has been taking measurements, only two other eruptions \u2013 the 2008\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/earthobservatory.nasa.gov\/images\/event\/20335\/aleutian-islandsrsquo-kasatochi-volcano-erupts'\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kasatochi event<\/a>\u00a0in Alaska and the 2015\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/earthobservatory.nasa.gov\/images\/85767\/calbuco-volcano-erupts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Calbuco eruption<\/a>\u00a0in Chile \u2013 sent appreciable amounts of water vapor to such high altitudes. But those were mere blips compared to the Tonga event, and the water vapor from both previous eruptions dissipated quickly.\u00a0<strong>The excess water vapor injected by the Tonga volcano, on the other hand, could remain in the stratosphere for several years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This extra water vapor could influence atmospheric chemistry, boosting certain chemical reactions that could temporarily worsen depletion of the ozone layer. It could also influence surface temperatures. Massive volcanic eruptions like Krakatoa and Mount Pinatubo typically cool Earth\u2019s surface by ejecting gases, dust, and ash that reflect sunlight back into space. In contrast, the Tonga volcano didn\u2019t inject large amounts of aerosols into the stratosphere, and the huge amounts of water vapor from the eruption may have a small, temporary warming effect, since water vapor traps heat. The effect would\u00a0<strong>dissipate when the extra water vapor cycles out of the stratosphere<\/strong>\u00a0[Emphases added]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So there you have it: we are in for extra atmospheric heat \u201cfor several years\u201d until the extra water vapor injected by this largest-ever-recorded underwater volcano eruption dissipates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coffeeandcovid.com\/p\/overheated-friday-july-28-2023-c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jeff Childers<\/a>, who brought this scientific data to my notice, writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s why corporate media is ignoring the most dramatic climate even[t] in modern history: because you can\u2019t legislate underwater volcanoes. You can try, but they won\u2019t listen. So what\u2019s the fun in that? Corporate media only exists to further political ends. Since volcanoes aren\u2019t subject to politics, why bother?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He brings up the work of Ethical Skeptic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ethical is suggesting that the water is heating the air \u2014 instead of the other way around. And the Earth\u2019s core is heating the water.\u00a0 It\u2019s a theory that explains everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, \u201cscience\u201d is baffled. From just a month ago, in mid-June:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.americanthinker.com\/images\/bucket\/2023-07\/247873_5_.jpg?w=1110&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">See? But though\u00a0scientists\u00a0are baffled, corporate media and its repulsive allies are busily blaming ocean warming on carbon dioxide \u2014 a ludicrous notion.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am the first to admit that none of this \u2013 not the atmospheric CO2 theory of global warming, nor the effect of the largest ever known undersea volcanic eruption \u2013 is scientifically proven.
