width=\"325\" height=\"163\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here I ask a simple question.\u00a0 Are we all wasting our time with climate science?\u00a0 Reading about it, writing about it, worrying about it, fighting about it, arguing about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To my horror, I discover that I have been involved in this enterprise for far more than a decade, originally writing from the Caribbean where my wife and I were living on our sailing catamaran while doing various humanitarian projects.\u00a0 \u00a0Not quite as long as Anthony Watts, who started WUWT in 2006, but nearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anthony\u2019s efforts led him to be the owner and host of the world\u2019s most viewed website on climate.\u00a0 Given that WUWT represents the \u201cminority report\u201d on climate, that is a heck of an achievement.\u00a0 Yet the jury is still out on how much of an impact on climate policy and public opinion this site, and the dozen or so other high impact climate skeptic websites, blogs, podcasts, etc., \u00a0have made and will make. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much of the \u201cclimate science\u201d being done, at least that\u00a0<em>small portion that reaches the public eye<\/em>\u00a0by appearing in the mass media, falls into that category which the honorable Dr. Judith Curry long ago labelled \u201cclimate science \u2018taxonomy\u2019\u201d \u2013 \u201c<em>\u2018taxonomy\u2019, i.e. research that is neither useful nor contributes to fundamental understanding\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>That type of so-called climate science is turned into climate alarm in spades, in diamonds, in hearts and in clubs \u2013 the whole deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am speaking of the nonsense one reads and hears from NPR, PBS, BBC, NBC, AP, CNN, Reuters, ABC, the NY Times, \u00a0the Guardian, the Washington Post \u2013 many of whom have openly joined themselves into\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wattsupwiththat.com\/2021\/05\/06\/wild-exaggeration-and-egregious-lies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">propaganda cabals<\/a>\u00a0( and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/insideclimatenews.org\/about\/out-funders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this one<\/a>) dedicated to spreading misleading information about climate and climate change. \u00a0[A new one has just been announced:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grist.org\/updates\/grist-and-ap-launch-reporting-collaboration-on-climate-and-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GRIST and AP<\/a>. ]\u00a0 Even when a media organization is not directly associated with one of these collaborative misinformation outlets, their editors and journalists have to face the wrath of those that are \u2013 there are few working journalists willing to fight the tide on climate alarmism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even the IPCC-boosting Pielke Jr. has been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rogerpielkejr.substack.com\/p\/what-the-ipcc-actually-says-about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blasting the media for repeating absolutely false narratives on extreme weather<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the very same media that repeats endlessly the mindboggling crazy pronouncements of U.N. Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres \u2014 \u201cthe era of\u00a0<strong>global boiling has arrived<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/clintel.org\/\">CLINTEL<\/a>, has just published an extremely valuable book,\u00a0<em>\u201cThe Frozen Climate Views of the IPCC\u201c,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&amp;q=buy+%22The+Frozen+Climate+Views+of+the+IPCC%22#ip=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">widely available<\/a>, in softcover and eBook formats. \u00a0The book examines the IPCC\u2019s AR6 and documents biases and errors in the Working Group 1 (Scientific Basis) and Working Group 2<em>\u00a0(<\/em>Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability) reports. \u00a0[Disclosure: I contributed one of the chapters \u2013 thus have a conflict of interest.]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We see the forked-tongued enemy.\u00a0 A two-pronged approach.\u00a0 First, the underlying science is slightly warped, slightly biased, misleadingly reported in the latest IPCC Assessment Report (AR6) WG1 and WG2. \u00a0A lot of this is simple confirmation bias and forced-consensus biasing.\u00a0 \u00a0The truth in is there, but one needs to dodge the rhetoric and look only at the data itself, which is mostly correct.\u00a0\u00a0 And then, the Summaries for Policy Makers (SPMs)\u00a0 wildly misrepresent what the science sections have said and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/browse\/transmogrify\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transmogrify<\/a>\u00a0it into something barely recognizable.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the SPMs, the politicians, media moguls, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/davos-elites-try-to-save-the-world-while-ignoring-actual-threats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Davos Crowd<\/a>, the Green-New-Dealers, the Great Reset-ers, turn the SPM political opinions into outright lies and give the media propaganda cabals their marching orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then, here we are.\u00a0 Here I am.\u00a0 I have written about 100 essays and opinion pieces here since 2020 alone.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been at it more than a decade.\u00a0 There are a few dozen of others like myself who have researched and written endlessly, both in books and on the \u2018Net, \u00a0to expose the lies, the disinformation, the misinformation, and the slimy political-shenanigans behind the efforts to \u201cdecarbonize\u201d the economy of the world in the name of fighting global cooling, global warming, climate change, the climate crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every few years we see a slight shift towards the climate skeptic way of thinking in the general populace \u2013 and recently, a few nudges in our direction from governments.\u00a0 The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/08\/01\/energy\/gas-fields-europe-energy-crisis-russia\/index.html\">UK will drill-baby-drill<\/a>\u00a0to supply its own energy needs from its own resources.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/12\/22\/1144990722\/japan-nuclear-power-change-fukushima\">Japan is re-opening nuclear power plants<\/a>\u00a0and building new ones.\u00a0 In November last year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/622700\/general-motors-stick-combustion-engines\/\">General Motors announced<\/a>\u00a0that it will stick with internal combustion engines.<em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>India, the third-largest greenhouse gas emitter and the world\u2019s most populous country ,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/subscriber.politicopro.com\/article\/eenews\/2023\/02\/07\/india-can-add-oil-and-gas-while-it-chases-green-goal-modi-00081372\">is planning for an expansion of its oil and gas sectors<\/a>\u00a0(even as it aims to hit net zero by 2070).\u00a0\u00a0 Those living in the real world realize that as Africa grows itself into prosperity, into the world of middle-class nations, it will do so on the back of coal and petroleum produced electricity.\u00a0 Even relatively well-developed South Africa has acknowledged it needs\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/03\/climate\/the-coal-challenge.html\">to continue to burn coal<\/a>\u00a0for the present and foreseeable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I hope that readers see the obvious contrasts between the \u201creality\u201d presented daily in the world\u2019s mass media and what is actually happening in the world.\u00a0 A large percentage of the material appearing on this website points out those contrasts, every single day.\u00a0 Heartland, the CO2 Coalition, Clintel and other international climate skeptical organizations do so in print and through broadcasts, podcasts, YouTubes and interviews on wide-reaching news outlets.\u00a0There are many climate skeptic oriented bloggers doing good work. Some of the \u201cgood news\u201d is getting out there.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is what we do worthwhile?\u00a0 \u00a0Yes \u2014 It is always worthwhile to do what is right, to do what is good, to tell the truth, to fight the good fight against falsehoods and lies.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But are we making an impact?\u00a0 I can no longer tell \u2013 I am having a little bit of a \u201cI think I\u2019m burnt-out\u201d stage. \u00a0I see a news article about a topic, and I think, \u201cThat\u2019s utter claptrap, I\u2019ll write about that.\u201d Only to discover that I\u2019ve already written about it a half-dozen times and really have nothing further to say than what I have already said.\u00a0 \u00a0I sometimes fear I just don\u2019t have anything\u00a0<em>more<\/em>\u00a0to say, at all \u2013 and when I teach Public Speaking, I tell students, \u201cIf you don\u2019t have anything to say \u2014 \u00a0don\u2019t get up to speak or if you are already up, sit \u00a0back down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, my question for the day, and please do comment, I promise not to get mad at you\u2026..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Should I just sit back down and shut up?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>or<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Should I keep banging away, just because \u2018someone has to\u2019?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong># # # # #<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Author\u2019s Comment:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I guess the same question applies to all of us here<em>\u2026.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is, I hope obviously, a piece meant to stimulate discussion.\u00a0 So, please, please, discuss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Pielke Jr.:\u00a0 I like Pielke Jr.\u00a0 He does good work.\u00a0 He tells the truth as he sees it.\u00a0 He is one of the most effective of the \u201cclimate skeptical voices\u201d, albeit in his own way.\u00a0 He is an IPCC-booster but even he thinks it needs serious reform. He has paid a heavy price for his temerity. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rogerpielkejr.substack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read his substack<\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yes, I do think that there is also some nonsense published here \u2013 some even written by me.\u00a0 That\u2019s the price we pay for freedom.\u00a0 But, the way I see it, we err in an honest search for truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don\u2019t expect to take too much of a role in the discussion, I have said what I have to say above.
