Swedish Court Convicts Greta Thunberg For Truck-Blocking Protest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greta Thunberg will have to pay a small fine after being convicted of disobeying a lawful order of the authorities to stop blocking a road earlier this year, an outcome she has decried as \u201cabsurd\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who burn fossil fuels should be in court, not those who fight against them, climate celebrity Greta Thunberg said today as she was handed a criminal record in a Swedish court for a protest action earlier this year. Thunberg was ordered to pay 50 kronor, or \u00a33.75\/$4.80 a day every day for 30 days. In all, the fine will add up to just \u00a3112, or $144.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was previously reported she could have faced months of prison time, underlining the leniency of the fine.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A criminal record can dramatically complicate visiting other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greta will likely still be able to visit COP28. The UAE is usually fairly lenient about visitors with criminal records, only requiring that the crime was not committed in the UAE, and that any term or sentence has been completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But for visiting countries with stricter rules like the USA, even a minor conviction likely means Greta will need to obtain special clearance to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criminals like Greta Thunberg need to accept their unlawful actions have consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
