won approval from planning officials.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, Times, serif; font-size: 13px; white-space-collapse: collapse;\">Carlton Power, an independent energy company, will need to raise \u00a3750m for the plant and is \u201cadvanced talks\u201d to raise the funds, it said. It will then need to pick a supplier.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Battery plants are seen as a way to\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/money\/consumer-affairs\/savvy-net-zero-homeowners-storing-cut-price-energy-slash-bills\/\"><em>smooth out power demand<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0as more electricity comes from\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2023\/02\/15\/national-grid-spends-4bn-prevent-blackouts-surge-wind-solar\/\"><em>intermittent sources like wind and solar<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Batteries can charge on windy or sunny days cheaply, or even for free, and then deploy that power when needed. The plant is expected to offer the equivalent of 2,080 megawatts \u2013 a decent sized power station \u2013\u00a0 for an hour.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Planning permission was granted by Trafford Council. Carlton has also won\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2023\/07\/18\/hydrogen-heating-revolution-feared-over-before-it-has-begun\/\"><em>approval for a green hydrogen project<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0in the area.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Councillor Tom Ross, the leader of Trafford Council, said: \u201cThe Trafford\u00a0 battery energy storage scheme, alongside the Trafford Green Hydrogen scheme, places Trafford and Greater Manchester at the forefront of the UK\u2019s energy transition. The two schemes will help address our climate crisis \u2013 one of Trafford Council\u2019s corporate priorities \u2013 and will support our region\u2019s plan to reach a target of net zero carbon emissions by 2038.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It will be built at the Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park in Greater Manchester, which will also host the world\u2019s first commercial liquid air storage system, being built by Highview Power, another energy storage firm, using its cryobattery technology.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2023\/07\/24\/manchester-plans-worlds-largest-battery-wind-energy\/\">https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2023\/07\/24\/manchester-plans-worlds-largest-battery-wind-energy\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reporter clearly does not understand just how puny this storage will be in terms of our overall energy mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It will store about 2 GWh. But daily electricity consumption is likely to be around 2000 GWh by 2035.
