Here is an example of myth making by NOAA\u2019s \u201cAsk a Scientist\u201d about extreme rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their myth:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cWe know that warmer air can hold more moisture, and moisture is a key ingredient to heavy rainfall, so it\u00a0stands to reason<\/strong>\u00a0that a warmer environment overall is capable of generating more extreme rainfall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, the first 2 scientific factoids are absolutely true but totally mis-applied; warmer air does hold more moisture and moisture is a key ingredient to heavy rainfall. But it \u201cdoes not stand to reason<\/strong>\u201d that global warming is causing more extreme rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still click-bait media like the Washington Post mindlessly write the headlines like, \u201cStudy finds climate change is bringing more intense rains to U.S.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>explaining that it is due to\u00a0\u201cwarmer air\u2019s ability to hold more water<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0 Focusing on global warming is the easiest way to implicate CO2, \u00a0and persist with the click-bait climate crisis hoax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just because warmer temperatures increase the\u00a0theoretical maximum of water vapor<\/strong>\u00a0that the air can hold, extreme rainfall\u00a0does not correlate<\/strong>\u00a0with temperatures as data from the US National Weather Service reveals in the table below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 10th<\/sup>, 2023, during each location\u2019s local 3 PM, Death Valley had a temperature of 98\u00b0F, the air held 5.92 kg\/m2<\/sup>\u00a0of water (TPW) but was only 4% of the theoretical maximum.In Shreveport Louisiana,\u00a0\u00a0temperatures were 18\u00b0F coole<\/strong>r but held\u00a010 times as much water vapor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Montpelier Vermont, temperatures were\u00a021\u00b0F cooler<\/strong>\u00a0but the air held\u00a08 times more water than Death Valley.<\/strong>\u00a0Clearly the much more important rainfall dynamic is how and where moisture is being transported from the ocean to the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The position of high- and low-pressure systems determines where moisture will be transported. The summer high pressure off the coast of California\u00a0blocks<\/strong>\u00a0rains from reaching Death Valley, while the high-presssure system in the North Atlantic\u00a0amplified the heavy rainfall<\/strong>\u00a0reaching Vermont and causing extensive flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, how the low-pressure cyclonic system migrated up the coast determined Vermont\u2019s temperature and heavy rainfall. On July 9th<\/sup>, the temperature in Montpelier at 3 PM was 67.1\u00b0<\/strong>F,\u00a010 degrees cooler<\/strong>\u00a0than its July average of 77.1\u00b0<\/strong>F. On July 10th<\/sup>\u00a0during the peak of flooding rainfall,\u00a0temperatures fell to 63.3\u00b0F<\/strong>\u00a0yet the atmosphere was saturated with water vapor\u00a0increasing<\/strong>\u00a0to 42 kg\/m2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As rainfall subsided on July 11th<\/sup>,\u00a0temperatures rose to 81.1\u00b0F,<\/strong>\u00a0 but the amount of\u00a0water vapor fell dramatically to 29.26 kg\/m2<\/strong>, just\u00a0half<\/strong>\u00a0of the local atmosphere\u2019s capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below the upper screen shot from the US National Weather Service, shows how the atmospheric surface circulation converged to amplify the transport of moisture into Vermont where the topography then wrung out the moisture. The lighter blue regions represent the greatest amount of water vapor.\u00a0 But such scientific information was rare from click-bait media, that prefers to perpetuate the climate crisis myth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lower sceen-shot, show the how the jet stream\u2019s northward flow at 500 mb further added to moisture reaching Vermont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So the next time the media and alarmist scientists try to convince you a flood was due to global warming go to https:\/\/earth.nullschool.net\/<\/a> where an interactive weather map from the US National Weather Service will allow you to see the relationship  between temperature and TPW and how atmospheric circulation concentrates moisture and how it changes over time despite the same CO2 concentrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
