Hotter Than the Fourth of July!<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

It was\u00a0widely reported<\/strong>\u00a0recently that July 4th, 2023 was the\u00a0hottest day in Earth\u2019s recorded history.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paulo Ceppi,<\/strong>\u00a0a climate scientist at London\u2019s Grantham Institute stated: \u201cIt hasn\u2019t been this warm since at least\u00a0125,000 years ago,<\/strong>\u00a0which was the previous interglacial.\u201d And, of course, it was reported that it was\u00a0our fault due to our \u201csins of emission.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This didn\u2019t meet the smell test for the\u00a0scientists at the CO2 Coalition<\/strong>. We\u00a0know<\/strong>\u00a0that\u00a0previous warm periods were warmer<\/strong>\u00a0than our modern temperatures. For example, during the Roman Warm Period there was\u00a0citrus<\/strong>\u00a0being\u00a0grown in the north of England<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0barley<\/strong>\u00a0was\u00a0grown by Vikings on Greenland 1,000 years ago.<\/strong>\u00a0Why aren\u2019t they grown there now? It\u2019s quite simple: Lower modern temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, here at the CO2 Coalition, we did what scientists are trained to do:<\/mark><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We looked at\u00a0the available data.<\/strong>\u00a0Our Science and Research Associate Byron Soepyan reviewed temperature data from the US Historical Climatology Network and found that both the number of weather stations reporting\u00a0temperature over 100 degrees F<\/strong>\u00a0and the Maximum Average Temperature for July 4th<\/strong>\u00a0were slightly\u00a0declining since<\/strong>\u00a0the record began in\u00a01895<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 not increasing \u2013 as Ceppi claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
