Adelaide<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/doi\/10.1073\/pnas.1222463110\">Climate change models<\/a><em>\u00a0for North America and Europe had previously suggested global warming would increase crop yields in the short term. The industrialized nations of the West want to eliminate hunger and poverty.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Shikwati:<\/strong><em>\u00a0Such intentions have been damaging our continent for the past 40 years. If the industrial nations really want to help the Africans, they should finally terminate this awful aid. The countries that have collected the most development aid are also the ones that are in the worst shape. Despite the billions that have poured in to Africa, the continent remains poor.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SPIEGEL:<\/strong><em>\u00a0Do you have an explanation for this paradox?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Shikwati:<\/strong><em>\u00a0Huge bureaucracies are financed (with the aid money), corruption and complacency are promoted, Africans are taught to be beggars and not to be independent. In addition, development aid weakens the local markets everywhere and dampens the spirit of entrepreneurship that we so desperately need. As absurd as it may sound: Development aid is one of the reasons for Africa\u2019s problems. If the West were to cancel these payments, normal Africans wouldn\u2019t even notice. Only the functionaries would be hard hit. Why were the farms full of food, yet\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mogadishu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mogadishu<\/a>\u00a0had none? This might have had something to do with the extreme lawlessness in Mogadishu, which at the time was full of gangsters, open street gang wars and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Khat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Khat<\/a>\u00a0addicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is also no evidence warmer weather increases the likelihood of simultaneous crop disasters in the paleo record, quite the opposite.
