Germany: Climate activists cause flight delays, cancelations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Generation activists hindered operations at airports in Hamburg and D\u00fcsseldorf. Some were reported to have glued themselves to areas near runways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLast Generation\u201d<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>climate activists<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday blockaded airports in the German cities of Hamburg and D\u00fcsseldorf, causing major disruption to flights.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activists said they had cut through fences at both airports and that several people had glued themselves to the ground in the runway areas.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protesters said their actions aim to highlight\u00a0the rising numbers of plane passengers, which are\u00a0causing increasing climate-warming greenhouse gas emissions in the\u00a0<\/em>aviation sector.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInstead of presenting a concrete plan to prevent this and to reach the emissions-reduction target called for by law, the Transport Ministry is relying on \u2018technological flexibility,’\u201d the group stated.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser\u00a0pledged new security measures in light of the delays, saying that \u201cthere will soon be actual standards for operators of critical infrastructure.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis also includes airports, and this will continue to lead to special security at airports,\u201d she added.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climate activists, if you want us to take your demands we abandon fossil fuel seriously, try cutting back on your personal use of fossil fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
