As I\u2019ve said before, it is our duty to fight back against the wild claims of the rampant climate alarmism that permeates media, social and otherwise. Here\u2019s an example of how you do it \u2013 writing a letters to the editor rebuttal. I urge readers to do the same when confronted with baseless scary claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My\u00a0Letter to the Editor<\/a>\u00a0of July 13, 2023:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Letter: Sifting through a lot of hot air<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a response to Michael Bertsch who\u00a0wrote:<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJuly 4th was the hottest day in the history of humanity so far. \u2026 and when science proves you wrong you still deny the heat record\u2019s connection to oil \u2014 this position is thick as a brick. We laugh at you. We\u2019re all laughing at you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This shows Michael\u2019s \u201cthick\u201d knowledge of the situation. That July 4th claim is false. It came from a website called climatereanalyzer.org using model data, not actual temperatures, and got picked up by know-nothing social media fools going viral, followed by the media that didn\u2019t bother to check. Only two problems: it wasn\u2019t an official temperature. In a\u00a0July 5 Associated Press story<\/a>, NOAA distanced itself:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNOAA, whose figures are considered the gold standard in climate data, said in a statement Thursday that it cannot validate the unofficial numbers. It noted that the reanalyzer uses model output data, which it called \u201cnot suitable\u201d as substitutes for actual temperatures and climate records.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And there is the fact that the model only goes back to 1979, not \u201cthe history of humanity.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ooops!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cexcess heat\u201d that spurred social media panic came from the waters off Antarctica, where apparently a computer model glitch made it look like shrimp were boiling in the ocean. Meanwhile, according to actual data, you know, from real measurements, the temperature of the Earth as of this writing is 57.47\u00b0F. That\u2019s not \u201chot.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I laugh at you Michael, in fact, we\u2019re all laughing at you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s the big \u201cheat source\u201d that caused the panic<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 an apparent glitch (or short term outlier anomaly) in model output that made it look like the waters off Antarctica were boiling hot, and when \u201caveraged\u201d over the entire globe, made that false 17\u00b0C uptick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
