The transition has been attributed to falling insolation (i.e., cooling) and associated decreases in precipitation and a dramatic shift in the monsoonal rainfall belt.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div warmer, green, lake-covered Holocene Sahara also took \u201conly a few centuries\u201d (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/science.1130989\">Kuper and Kropelin,
