Why this climate crisis myth is so prevalent \u2013 and problematic<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jun 19, 2023<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/authors\/douglas-broom\">Douglas Broom<\/a><br><strong>Senior Writer,&nbsp;<\/strong>Forum Agenda<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The idea that it\u2019s too late to halt the climate crisis has been gaining ground recently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It\u2019s become the most popular cry of former climate change sceptics, say researchers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>But it\u2019s also the view of many people who want to help, but are overwhelmed by the challenge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While the world has been given \u2018a final warning\u2019, scientists say there is still time for action, but myths like these are stalling mitigation efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The world has been given a \u201cfinal warning\u201d about the climate emergency. The United Nations says action is needed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/statement\/2023-03-20\/secretary-generals-video-message-for-press-conference-launch-the-synthesis-report-of-the-intergovernmental-panel-climate-change\">\u201con all fronts \u2013 everything, everywhere, all at once\u201d<\/a>. So why do so many people think nothing can be done to halt climate change?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2018It\u2019s too late\u2019 \u2013 a dominant climate myth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yet, researchers have found that increasing numbers of people say that it\u2019s too late to save the planet. Not only has global warming failed to occur at the predicted rate, there is also a complete absence of evidence that global warming presents an actual problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As I\u2019ve repeatedly mentioned, our monkey ancestors&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/doi\/10.1073\/pnas.0511296103\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spread from the tropics to the high arctic<\/a>&nbsp;during the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paleocene%E2%80%93Eocene_Thermal_Maximum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paleocene\u2013Eocene Thermal Maximum<\/a>, all the way up to Greenland, because 5C+ of global warming turned most of the Earth into a paradise for our warmth loving primate ancestors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If our monkey ancestors managed to thrive in a much warmer world, there is no doubt we could figure it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are only so many failed end of the world, end of snow and ice free arctic predictions people can accept, before they start taking the latest prognostication with a big grain of salt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So how do you deflect criticism for your personal lack of climate zeal, if you don\u2019t want to get into a big argument about why climate disaster predictions are a crock of proverbial?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One solution is to say \u201cit\u2019s too late, so why should I bother?\u201d. Believers cannot challenge this assertion \u2013 they half believe it themselves \u2013 so they leave you alone to your \u201cmisery\u201d \u2013 you poor thing, you don\u2019t bother recycling anymore because you don\u2019t see the point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not difficult to trace why people have suddenly become more skeptical. All the lies told during the Covid lockdown, only to discover once the lockdowns were lifted, that what we were dealing with was bad flu?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the wake of the Covid lies and exaggerations, why should anyone take any government funded scientific claims seriously?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So no, we haven\u2019t abandoned criticising climate models.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wattsupwiththat.com\/2021\/07\/30\/climate-scientists-realize-models-yield-implausibly-hot-forecasts-of-future-warming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Most models are running implausibly hot<\/a>, they\u2019re obviously wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But watching the dying climate alarmism movement flailing about, fabricating nonsensical straw man claims about climate skeptics, trying to blame everything for their own failure other than their personal incompetence, its an entertaining spectacle as we wait for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wattsupwiththat.com\/2023\/06\/12\/george-soros-ai-is-a-bigger-problem-than-climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the rising fake AI
