the past month over the Pacific Northwest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are such dry conditions unprecedented?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are late springs getting drier?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Is global warming behind it?&nbsp; Or El Nino?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I will Airport and added a best-fit trend line as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will note that our recent period was dry, but not the driest by far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now check out the trend line.&nbsp; There is NO indication that the May 1-June 5 period is getting drier.&nbsp; In fact, the long-term trend is towards wetter conditions.&nbsp; This suggests that progressive global warming was not the origin of our lack of rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What about the other side of the Cascades?&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;Let&#8217;s consider the long-period observation location at Kennewick in the Tri-Cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar story to Seattle.\u00a0 We have had a dry period, but it has happened before many times, and the trend is towards a WETTER late spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" May and earlier June.\u00a0 \u00a0No suggestion that global warming\/climate change is the cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What about El Nino?&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El Nino conditions in the tropical Pacific have only really developed during the past month, but let&#8217;s check out the NOAA Climate Prediction Center historical precipitation anomaly from normal for April to June during El Nino years (below).\u00a0 A very mixed bag over Washington State.\u00a0 Wetter
