mean annual air temperature (MAAT) variations of over 12\u00b0C and intervals when it was nearly 4\u00b0C warmer than modern.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Per a new paleotemperature reconstruction (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0012821X22005490\">Olson et al., 2023<\/a><\/strong>) from a California lake, there were periods during the last glacial when MAATs were both significantly colder (11.8\u00b0C) and warmer (23.9\u00b0C) than today (20.1\u00b0C).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Holocene, ~250-275 ppm CO2, has also had periods when paleotemperatures were multiple degrees warmer than modern.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img
