Kennedy then&nbsp;<strong>asked Turk for an estimate<\/strong>&nbsp;of how&nbsp;<strong>much it would cost to be carbon neutral by 2050<\/strong>,<strong>&nbsp;with Turk refusing<\/strong>&nbsp;to provide a number. Kennedy first said&nbsp;<strong>Turk\u2019s colleagues<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>have presented a figure in the range of $50 trillion<\/strong>&nbsp;before asking how much would temperatures be affected by that massive spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you could answer&nbsp;<strong>my question: if we spend $50 trillion to become carbon neutral in the United States of America by 2050,<\/strong>&nbsp;you\u2019re the deputy secretary of energy, give me your estimate of&nbsp;<strong>how much that is going to reduce world temperature.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo first of all it\u2019s a net cost, it\u2019s what benefits we\u2019re having by getting our act together and reducing all of those climate benefits, we\u2019re seeing \u2013\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Turk said before Kennedy interjected<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI\u2019m gonna ask again,<\/strong>&nbsp;maybe I\u2019m not being clear: if we spent $50 trillion to become carbon neutral by 2050 in the United States of America, how much is that going to reduce world temperatures?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a<strong>&nbsp;global problem so we need to reduce our emissions<\/strong>&nbsp;and we need to do everything we can \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cHow much if we do our part is it going to reduce world temperatures?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re 13% of global emissions\u2013\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cYou don\u2019t know do you?\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;Kennedy asked, stunning Turk who had his mouth agape. \u201cYou don\u2019t know, do ya?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou can do the math\u2013\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou don\u2019t know do ya Mr. Secretary?\u201d Kennedy again asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo&nbsp;<strong>we\u2019re 13% of global emissions\u2013<\/strong>\u201d Turk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cIf you know why won\u2019t you tell me?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cIf we went to 0 that would be a 13% less pollution,\u201d Turk said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou don\u2019t know do ya? Assuming it would actually work, to have a meaningful effect on climate, the world would have to&nbsp;<strong>spend about half the global annual economy<\/strong>&nbsp;for the best-case scenario. If you think inflation is bad now, just wait for those sorts of numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Summary:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if you buy UN IPCC assumptions about reducing carbon emissions reducing global warming, the cost is outrageous for neglible benefit.\u00a0 What a rip-off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
