and, no doubt, providing locals with an exhilarating seismic experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We reported on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/stopthesethings.com\/2023\/02\/12\/catastrophic-failures-300-tonne-wind-turbines-keep-on-collapsing-in-terrifying-fashion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the phenomenon only a few weeks back<\/a>, noting that there has been a significant increase in the number of collapses in the last 18 months \u2013 and that, accordingly,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/stopthesethings.com\/2023\/02\/16\/risk-premium-insurers-baulk-at-paying-out-for-hundreds-of-wind-turbine-fires-collapses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">insurers are cranking up the premiums<\/a>&nbsp;they charge their owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his piece below, Tim Newcomb notes the increase in gravitational disruption, and puts forward the idea that as the size, bulk and scale of these things increases, the number of collapses can only increase, too. And they sure are falling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wind turbine failures are on the uptick, from Oklahoma to Sweden and Colorado to Germany, with all three of the major manufacturers admitting that the race to create bigger turbines has invited manufacturing issues, according to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-01-23\/wind-turbine-collapses-punctuate-green-power-growing-pains\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<em>Bloomberg<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Multiple turbines that are taller than 750 feet are collapsing across the world, with the tallest\u2014784 feet in stature\u2014falling in Germany in September 2021. To put it in perspective, those turbines are taller than both the Space Needle in Seattle and the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. Why? \u201cIt takes time to stabilize production and quality on these new products,\u201d Larry Culp, GE CEO, said last October on an earning call, according to&nbsp;<em>Bloomberg<\/em>. \u201cRapid innovation strains manufacturing and the broader supply chain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without industrywide data chronicling the rise\u2014and now fall\u2014of turbines, we\u2019re relying on industry experts to note the flaws in the wind farming. \u201cWe\u2019re seeing these failures happening in a shorter time frame on the new turbines,\u201d Fraser McLachlan, CEO of insurer GCube Underwriting, told&nbsp;<em>Bloomberg<\/em>, \u201cand that\u2019s quite concerning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The push to produce bigger wind-grabbing turbines has sped production of the growing apparatuses.&nbsp;<em>Bloomberg<\/em>&nbsp;reports that Siemens has endured quality control issues on a new design, Vestas has seen project delays and quality challenges, and GE has seen an uptick in warranty costs and repairs. And this all comes along with uncertain supply chain issues and fluctuating material pricing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With heights stretching taller than 850 feet, blades 300 feet long, and energy generation abilities ratcheting up accordingly, the bigger the turbine, the more energy it can capture.
