These things have a terrifying habit of succumbing to gravity, their 300-tonne superstructures dropping like giant, wounded flies, splattering their inner workings far and wide; and, no doubt, providing locals with an exhilarating seismic experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We reported on the phenomenon only a few weeks back<\/a>, noting that there has been a significant increase in the number of collapses in the last 18 months \u2013 and that, accordingly, insurers are cranking up the premiums<\/a> they charge their owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his piece below, Tim Newcomb notes the increase in gravitational disruption, and puts forward the idea that as the size, bulk and scale of these things increases, the number of collapses can only increase, too. Or, as they say, the bigger they come, the harder they fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
