If you were on Twitter back when the COVID \u201cfear mongering\u201d was at its peak, you\u2019ll likely remember the \u201cTwitter doctors\u201d who popped up, seemingly out of thin air, claiming they were losing hordes of patients to COVID every single day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These so-called \u201cdoctors\u201d whipped everyone into a fear frenzy. Their tweets would get tens of thousands of retweets and engagement daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cdoctors\u201d posed as ER physicians and were part of the LGBTQ community in some way. They created this hellish\/apocalyptic scenario that made it sound as if bodies were piling up in the streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, this probably won\u2019t come as a huge surprise to you, but those popular \u201cER doctors\u201d were fake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The San Fransico Standard<\/a>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Dr. Robert Honeyman lost their sister to Covid. They wrote about it on Twitter and received dozens of condolences, over 4,000 retweets and 43,000 likes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exactly one month later, on Dec. 12, Honeyman wrote that another tragedy had befallen their family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSad to announce that my husband has entered a coma after being in hospital with Covid. The doctor is unsure if he will come out,\u201d they tweeted. \u201cThis year has been the toughest of my life losing my sister to this virus. This is the first time in my life I don\u2019t see light at the end of the tunnel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again, the condolences and well-wishes rolled in. But there was a problem: Honeyman wasn\u2019t real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transgender \u201cDoctor of Sociology and Feminist studies\u201d with a \u201ckeen interest in poetry\u201d who used they\/them pronouns was, in fact, a stock photo described on DepositPhotos, a royalty-free image site, as \u201cSmiling happy, handsome latino man outside\u2014headshot portrait.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their supposedly comatose husband, Dr. Patrick C. Honeyman, was also fake. His Twitter photo had been stolen from an insurance professional in Wayne, Indiana.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

But this wasn\u2019t just a \u201cone-off\u201d situation. This was part of a much bigger effort \u2013 a mini network \u2013 created to stoke fear over COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two fake doctors, whose accounts urged extreme caution about Covid-19, were part of a network of at least four fake accounts that touted their ties to the LGBTQ+ community, vocally advocated for mask-wearing and social distancing, and dished out criticism to those they felt were not taking the pandemic seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Honeymans could not be reached for comment, as they do not exist. At publication time, Robert Honeyman\u2019s account was no longer active.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The irony here, is that the network of \u201cCovid fear mongers\u201d was uncovered by a liberal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fake doctors were uncovered by Joshua Gutterman Tranen, a self-described \u201cgay writer\u201d pursuing a master\u2019s of fine arts at Bennington College. He saw Robert Honeyman\u2019s tweet about their husband being in a coma, noticed people he followed also followed them, and thought that they might be part of the LGBTQ+ academic community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But after 10 minutes of googling, Gutterman Tranen concluded that Robert Honeyman\u2019s photo was a stock image and their biography stretched boundaries of believability: an academic who left no traces on academic websites and had lost two family members to Covid in late 2022, despite masking and distancing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This was an elaborate network of frauds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both doctors present themselves as members of the LGBTQ+ community. Robert displayed the trans and Ukrainian flags in their Twitter name. Patrick had a rainbow flag in his bio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robert wrote openly about suffering from MPX, an infectious disease that caused San Francisco to declare a state of emergency earlier this year and had largely spread among men who have sex with men. \u201cDon\u2019t believe what the media have been sharing. [\u2026] it\u2019s a horrible disease that has had me bed ridden,\u201d they tweeted in July. They also claimed to have been the victim of a transphobic attack in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another account associated with the group, Dr. Gerold Fischer, displayed rainbow, trans and Ukrainian flags next to his name and described himself as \u201can ally for all in the #LGBQT+ Community. #WearAMask.\u201d Fischer\u2019s account has since been taken down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fourth account, Dr. Steve \u201cSte\u201d Ville, who claimed an affiliation with the University of Antwerp, described himself as an \u201cLGBTQ+ Ally\u201d and a \u201cProud Mask Wearer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All four doctors had a few things in common. Three had created their accounts during the pandemic. Fischer\u2019s account dated to 2019, but his earliest visible tweet was from July 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The doctors also frequently interacted with one another. Fischer\u2019s first tweets were, in fact, a retweet, a quote tweet and a response to Robert Honeyman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robert Honeyman claimed that Fischer, who said he was suffering from post-Covid brain fog, was \u201cthe sharpest individual\u201d they met at university. The two \u201cdoctors\u201d sent greetings to each other\u2019s families.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This network pushed mask mandates and even those brutal China-style lockdowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All four accounts urged caution about Covid. They also amplified the voices of other Twitter users calling on the public to mask, vaccinate and socially distance. At times, they criticized policies that they felt undermined pandemic safety and individuals who they believed did not take Covid seriously enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as Twitter users responded to Gutterman Tranen\u2019s thread on the Honeymans, they also discovered the accounts expressing views that appeared implausible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCome on china! Stop protesting, I wish we had similar lockdown measures here,\u201d Robert Honeyman wrote in a Nov. 27 tweet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Standard was unable to establish who created the four fake doctors. But perhaps the most alarming aspect of their nonexistence online is that it is also unclear why they were created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Could this network of fake doctors be part of a bigger military-grade psyop that was unleashed on the US and the entire world?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
