Image cropped from ZDF kugelzwei.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">What the BBC is to Great Britain, are what the WDR and ARD public broadcasting are to Germany in terms of television and radio presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Just some weeks ago, the Instagram site of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6bpVMk22dC8\">WDR\u00a0<em>kugelzwei\u00a0<\/em>presented some tips<\/a>\u00a0that save heat and energy for citizens to consider: showering only once a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"723\" height=\"407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6bpVMk22dC8?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">After all: \u201cAround 100 years ago, it was still customary to bathe only once a week,\u201d wrote\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kugelzwei\/\"><em>kugelzwei<\/em><\/a>. \u201cToday, people almost look at you strangely if you tell them you don\u2019t shower several times a week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The \u201cbenefits\u201d of showering only once a week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Supposedly, there are in fact numerous benefits from showering much less frequently, according to ZDF\u2019s\u00a0<em>kugelzwei<\/em>. For example, people would maybe learn to become \u201ca little more tolerant of body odor\u201d, and the unwashed would save time in the bathroom every morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Use sinks, not showers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover, fitness studios could replace showers with just plain sinks. After a sweaty workout, one could freshen up in cubicle with with a simple sink and a washcloth instead of using a shower cubicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Make the weekly shower a public social event<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Another idea proposed by the WDR\u2019s&nbsp;<em>kugelzwei<\/em>&nbsp;is public bathing: \u201cMaybe showering or bathing could become a weekly highlight,\u201d they suggest. \u201cWe would celebrate this in public bathhouses \u2013 perhaps also in the company of others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www1.wdr.de\/kugelzwei\/gedankenspiele\/was-waere-wenn-nur-einmal-pro-woche-duschen-baden-100.html\">WDR also cited research<\/a>&nbsp;from Great Britain on the impacts that lockdowns had on showering. \u201cIn a YouGov survey, 17% of Britons said they shower less since the lockdowns.
