Anew Covid wave is upon us, but the endless vaccine rush is over. The dog isn\u2019t barking. As of last week, almost no one in Australia is eligible for the fifth dose. Even the old and vulnerable are not being told to get another dose. This is the end of two years of non-stop push. \u201cAccess to antivirals is more important\u201d say the experts for the first time, and it appears people practically need to be a transplant patient or on chemo to be able to get jab number five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Health says fifth doses of a COVID-19 vaccine are not currently being recommended for most people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health authorities have warned a new wave of COVID-19 is beginning to make its way through the community and currently, only adults with a severely compromised immune system are eligible for a fifth dose.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, they\u2019re finally catching up with what the deplorable bloggers like I have\u00a0been saying since March 2020,<\/a>\u00a0antivirals<\/a>\u00a0were\u00a0always<\/em>\u00a0less risky, easier to test, and cheaper to make. Though, of course, our government health bodies are still profit machines for large pharmaceutical corporations. They\u2019re not promoting the\u00a0cheapest, safest antivirals<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 only the\u00a0Big-Pharma-friendly kind<\/a>\u00a0that are still under patents, and which siphon vast funds from our taxpayer pharmaceutical scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are effectively saying that the boosters are useless, or even worse than useless, without having the honesty to say so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They must be a bit worried. Finally, they\u2019re going to\u00a0stop the under 30s from getting the fourth jab because of \u201cside effects\u201d:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Professor Allen Cheng<\/a>, former co-chair and current member of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), told The Sydney Morning Herald<\/em> on Saturday that it was likely the current vaccine schedule would remain as is, given the heightened risk of heart inflammation in young people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA 30-year-old with \u2026 three doses will be optimally protected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added, \u201cVaccinations are beneficial and protective even for younger people but the more doses you get,\u00a0the less benefit you derive from them and then we start to worry about causing side effects.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mantra lines are all the same, they\u2019ve just swapped the word vaccine for antiviral. Now we\u2019re bragging that \u201cAustralians have one of the best antiviral<\/em> uptakes in the world\u201d. (As if the hapless punters in the streets have much say in their prescriptions, were racing to get there, and even knew there was a race?). Are we proud of our druggieness now, or our obedience?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At no point do they say ATAGI have decided<\/em> the fourth dose is dangerous to young adults, instead someone who used to work there has conveniently leaked out that the \u201cunder 30s are unlikely to get approval\u201d. It\u2019s as if the under thirties are champing at the bit to get more doses and ATAGI is just being restrained and sensible, eh?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mantras of the last two years are still there:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt the moment ATAGI\u2019s firm statement remains that people should remain up to date with their vaccination<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd based on the advice we have an older person who has stayed up to date and has had the fourth dose still has great protection against severe disease.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And vaccinees have such\u00a0great<\/em>\u00a0protection, that they apparently need antivirals too\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High uptake in antivirals important, says health secretary<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Health Department secretary Professor Brendan Murphy said access to antivirals for the elderly is likely more important than getting a fifth vaccine dose.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are seeing a very significant uptake now that this wave\u2019s started in antiviral use,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you\u2019ve had four doses and you\u2019re an old person who is vulnerable, it is probably a more important thing to get access to antivirals than to consider another dose for which the evidence is not very strong.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have one of the best antiviral uptakes in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one of the best markers we have of the pandemic, once cases go up antiviral use goes up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the illusion of our personal control of our health continues. Talk of an \u201cuptake\u201d of antivirals implies the minions have a say over their own healthcare when they still can\u2019t go to their doctor and ask for the treatments they want, and they were never allowed to buy an Australian designed less risky protein vaccine<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
