Rishi Sunak has ruled out <\/em>paying billions in climate reparations<\/em><\/a> to developing countries, as a row over money grows at the Cop27 summit.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking in the House of Commons on Wednesday, the Prime Minister said <\/em>reparations were \u201cnot the right approach\u201d<\/em><\/a> and he would instead prioritise green investment that supports British jobs and businesses.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Sunak said the UK was \u201cfulfilling our obligations\u201d, putting the country on course for a <\/em>row with developing states during the negotiations<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Developing countries are calling for additional funds from richer polluting countries to <\/em>help them pay for the impacts of climate change<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Labour has backed their calls, with Ed Miliband, the shadow climate secretary, saying the UK has a \u201chistorical responsibility\u201d to pay out.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Sunak said reparations are \u201cnot the same\u201d as loss and damage, such as floods and typhoons, which is the pressing issue at the talks.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the UK argues that it already provides sufficient funding to help countries recover from natural disasters and does not need to provide more.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Government has ruled out <\/em>extensions to the overseas aid budget<\/em><\/a> to fund any additional money for loss and damage.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe the idiot Miliband might like to tell us how many billions of taxpayer money he is going to give away, and which taxes he will raise to pay for it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And while we\u2019re at it, maybe he and Sunak might like to explain to quantify how much flood and typhoon damage has been caused by fossil fuels?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
